FISHING ON THE DAVIDSON Some 600 fishermen caught approximately 2700 trout on opening day in the Davidson River and its tributaries. Each day that the streams are open hundreds of sportsmen match wits with the wary trout. Over a five year period the number of trout caught annually from the Davidson increased from 627 to 5,405. To keep the streams stocked for the ever-increasing number of fishermen is the job of the Davidson River Rearing Station. The personnel at the station is continually taking legal size fish from the rearing pools and transplanting them in the fishing areas. For the benefit of the many fishing enthusiasts at Ecusta we are giving the remaining open dates for Davidson River: May 27, 28, 30; June 1, 3, 4, 8, 10, 11, 15, 17, 18, 22, 24, 25, 29; July 1, 2, 4, 6, 8, 9, 13, 15, 16, 20, 22, 23, 27, 29, 30; and August, 3, 5, 6, 10, 12, 13, 17, 19, 20, 24, 26, 27, 31. Fishing in the Camp Sapphire Lake opens on Monday, May 29th, for the 1950 season. We would like to bring to your attention the rules in connection with fishing at Camp Sapphire. Fishing in the Lake will be open every day to all employees of Ecusta and their families. In order to be eligible to fish, a fishing pass per mitting you to fish must be obtained from the Personnel Office. This pass is good only on the date specified, and is good for that day only. A maximum of fifteen passes will be issued per day, on a first come first served basis. However, no passes will be issued two days in succession to the same employee unless the quota is below the maximum fifteen for that day. The holder of the pass must agree to all other rules relative to fishing in the lake, among which are: 1. To present his permit at the office of Camp Sapphire and obtain permission to begin fishing. 2. To fish only between 10:00 A. M. and 7:30 P. M. 3. To take not more than five (5) blue gill (bream) not less than six (6) inches in length and two (2) bass not less than eleven (11) inches in length. 4. At the end of the day, or when he stops fishing, to check back at the Camp Sapphire office and report the number and size of the fish he caught. (continued on page 31 24
