FEBRUARY 26, 1951 CLARION PAGE SEVEN f Around The Campus Brevard—“The Land Where the Water Falls”—got a nice dose of H20 in a fluffier form the first days of February when the early risers got up one morning and found the ground covered with snow and little flakes still falling. Old Man Winter certainly made the campus a wonderland for a few days, and iMARY GRACE NANCE, MARTHA WASHAM, H. C. MITCHUM, ART THOMPSON, BILL BASS, and other warriors found the snow in front of West Hall especially good for packing snowballs. Out on the other side in front of Taylor, PAT and CAROL CAR TER, B. J. EVANS, HELEN CO BLE, and DAPHNE BOWERS en gaged in a more harmless pursuit by putting their artistic talents to gether to make Mr. Snowman of 1951. A few overly ambitious snow fiends found it a little hard to retain their equilibrium on icy sidewalks, and HELEN HAYES told us that a snowdrift made a very soft, though rather cold seat ing arrangement. The thermometer just won’t stay nice and normal, and two days after the snow was gone, Old Sol shone so hard that the temperature mill iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiitiiiiiiMiii mil II tiiiiKiit limit mil iiiiiii He’s GOT A GUN Ijace’Tfimmed ^namrte m warmth brought symptoms of shot way up. This pre-season spring fever which blossomed out in hiking for the energetic and just “settin’ in the sun” for the lazy ones. By the way, if you ever plan to cross the Alps, take FLETCH MARTIN for a guide. He always knows what’s across the next mountain before any one else does. Here is a tip for would-be mountain climbers: JIM BARKER, TOM ROBERTS, JIM DILLARD, and BERNIE WELCH declare that boots are the thing for climb ing snowclad peaks. As for just sitting in the sun, HAROLD TOL BERT and JEAN ARLEDGE like that form of recreation. New girls, BETTY LINEBERRY and GINGER FOOTE, appeared to be having a gay time with JOE JACK WELLS and RAYMOND UNDERWOOD at the Delphian Valentine dance. Speaking of the dance, BAM BAM PEELE looked very happy to have ELEANOR ORR up from Charlotte for that week-end. ELEANOR came up v'ith SHIRLEY and BRUCE JAM- ERSON, who visited on campus and in Asheville. Those ear-splitting shrieks you heard on the morning of Friday the ninth belonged to DOTTIE GAY ROCKWOOD. JOHN RAN DALL arrived on campus from Smyrna, Tennessee, where he is stationed. We saw MAX McCRACKEN on campus last week. C. are DON HOGEWOOD, CECIL WILKIN SON, BRUCE ROWE, and FRANK ELLERBE. Good luck, boys! A little bird told me that at Taylor’s Valentine party, the girls played “hopeful hearts” and that most of the fortunes read: “Find the man of your dreams and get married.” Girls! What are you saying? The rec hall seems to be well populated these days. Perry Co mo’s recording of “If” is the num ber one song, and CAROLYN HAMILTON and TOM NEAL are usually to be found dancing to it. JEAN EAKER and RAYMOND UNDERWOOD have worked out some fancy new shag steps, too. Ping-pong still draws a crowd. ART THOMPSON, REID LUC- KEY, HOWARD MacINTOSH, and ALLEN ANGEL are all ace play ers. H. C. MITCHUM likes to team up with MARY GRACE NANCE for doubles. MARTHA WASHAM has a wicked serve, and we do mean wicked! The program of the evening was two-fold. During the first phase, the students saw motion pictures of the latest May Day celebration at Brevard college and of last sea son’s Brevard-Mars Hill football game. The films, loaned for the occasion by Mr. Henry Henderson, of Brevard, were shown by Mr. Hugh Hollifield. After the pictures, the faculty and administration of the college performed in a series of skits writ ten and directed by Loise Moseley, of the department of physical ed ucation. These skits, grouped un der the title of A SHAKESPEAR EAN BASKETBALL GAME, were burlesques reminiscent of plays such as HELZAPOPPIN and YOU CAN’T TAKE IT WITH YOU. Frost, Noted (Continued From Page One) TERRY DELIGHTED WITH BREVARD AND APPRECIATIWE CROWD In conversation with Clarioneers after the concert, Mr. Terry re marked, “I am delighted to be in Brevard and don’t know when I’ve had a nicer reception.” The fa mous baritone spoke highly of President Ehlhardt, saying, “Your college is fortunate to have such a young and ambitious president.” “The audience was most kind,” Terry continued. “If you will re ceive the remaining guests in your series as you have accepted me, each will open his heart to you.” cut her hair and DAN SHAW likes it . . .
