THE CLAKION MABCH 13,1959 f>AGE FOUR Qiiiiiiiitiiiiiiiitii iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiniiiii»0 OUR GANG I Witb Ju# UdkUnus I U luimimwB Spring is in the air; the season of mixed — or mixed-up — emo'tions is upon us. And, judging from what the sophomores tell me, Bre vard Tech is juSt about the best place in the world during the sea son when a young man’s fancy lightly turns to thoughts of base ball, softball, tennis, swiimming, boating, food, oars, Bermuda shorts — and, occasionally, girls (I hope)! Yes, it hardly seems possible that spring is really almost here and that there are only 1508 more hours, 90,480 more miniutes, and 5,428,800 more seconds until we evacuate Brevard college. Seems like a long time, doesn’t it? By this time, it has become oib- vious that nothing much is hap pening now — unless you are a plant or a Martian and are turn ing gi’een for the season. Then, of course, there’s always chlorophyll toothpaste! For want of something better to do, Leroy Hill; Burl Hull, Bill Bumgardner, and Tom/my Butner are planning to send up a beautiful ly decorated satellite which they have lovingly tagged “The Brevard- nik.” Congrats, boys, sorry I can’t ir.ake the trip! Memo to short boys and girls who feel squelched: you can’t stretch yourself, but someone told | me today that studying m'^es you j grow taller. Huh? ! ? ?? To Maxine George and Christian Fellowsihiip: it was the cleverest dance of the year, and we girls have ibut one commient, which is, ol course, “Bring back slavery!!” To Carole Mappus: I don’t know how to say it in Charlestonese, but Vagabond Diner 174 E. Well, I guess enough’s enough. May I close with this soon4o-be ap propriate bit of classic poetry: Spring has sprumig; The grass is riz; I wonder wher’ The birdies is! So. so long, McMamiac DESTINATION By Jimmie Hartsoe My, what a week-end I had! It was really a rough one On Sat^- day night I wias smeared up pretty badly, and doubled over a few times. After I had been pretty well licked I rested awhile. But then, before I knew whe.t was happening; I, with some of my fellow clan, was gabbed up, stamiped, and thrown into different cells. The next morning we were tied up, blindfolded, put on a train, and sent on a long trip. At the end of this journey we were once again put into different cells, then into little groups. A large, husky fellow carried me out and cramimed me into a metal box, in which I stayed only a few miniutes. I was taken out “Oedipus Rex” Ends Year’s Lyceum Series Oedipus Rex, a Greek dramia, by Sophocles was presented as a Ly- cepm program March 9, 1959, at Brevard college in the Campus Center auditorium. Players Incorporated presented a new adaptation of the play by Leo Hardy with clarity and sim plicity, leaving a lastimg impres sion on the audience. The plot, disclosed at Thebes be fore the palace of Oedipus, reveal ed the fulfillment of a prophecy that Oediipus would kill his father and marry his mother. Upon find ing this to be true, Oedipus blind ed himself immediately after his imiother - wife, Jocasta, hanged her self. Creon, the brother - in - law of Oedipus, banished him. A unity of time, place, and ac tion was observed as was the cus tom of the ancient Greek theatre. To keep the audience informed as to the happenings off stage, a cho rus was assembled.
