Team Beats NG
In Finals For
Championship
Behind the brilliant shooting
of Tom Barbee, the Tornadoes
over-powered the North Green
ville Mounties by a 97-74 score
in the final game of the WCJCC
tourney, Saturday in Greer,
South Carolina. Brevard’s de
fense and rebounding were su
perb as the team completely
dominated the backboards.
Charlie Jacobs started the Tor
nadoes rolling as he dumped in
the first two points of the ball
game. Then North Greenville
roared back to take a 11-7 lead.
Brevard, not to be “out-done,”
grabbed the lead back and staved
off the Mountie attack. During
the first half Coggins and Bar
bee hauled in the rebounds
vi'hich proved to be a chief fac
tor in the game. However, the,
fans gasped as they saw Barbee
pump in basket after basket; it
seemed as though the North Bun
combe High product never miss
ed. The Tornadoes held an ele-'
ven point lead at the halftime, j
As the second half progressed, |
the Mounties fought back to ]
come within three points of ty
ing the score, as Tankersley and
Duncan led the way. The Tor-
radoes then left the Mounties
behind as they put on a fourth
quarter exhibition of sharpshoot-
ing and backboard domination.
The Tornadoes had scored 97
points when the final whistle
sounded to give the team a 97-
V4 victory. >
