(Photo by Steve Rabey). Bill Forehand Hail To The Chief by John Zillioux It seems that every college campus thinks it’s the best and its administrators continually ram ble on about how great their m- stitution is. Brevard College is no exception. BC administrators boast highly of the campus, the faculty, facilities, and especially the students. But unlike some other colleges, there really is something to what is said by ad ministrators about BC. “I’m extremely pleased with this year ; we’re working with the most mature students,” stated Dr Morris Wray, Dean ot Brevard College. “I’ve never been happier with a student body.” Dr. Wray pointed out tnai students show their maturity by Nikki Jardine There is a certain student on campus who is very important to the rest of the student body. Late- ly, however, when a few freshmen have been asked Have you seen Bill Forehand? , their reply is “I don’t even know who he is! ” Let it be said that Bill is a guy who should be known. Bill Forehand is the President of the Student Government Association. He is the one who chairs the organization at each meeting. John McMinn, Vice- President of the Judicial Board, puts it “He’s the guy Allison Tan ner (Vice-President of the Social Board) and I turn to for advice.” Bill represents the student body before all administrators and trustees. He is the student representative on all occasions concerning the student body and he is the one who carries ideas before the advisors. Bill has nothing but praise for the new student government. He states, “This year, we will be helping to spearhead new ideas on campus. Also, we are going to be attending the first of a number of conferences at Western Carolina on student government. Hopefully, we will be able to at tend these throughout the year.” Bill Forehand, the student, is basic down-to-earth guy and one of the friendliest people on cam pus. He is majoring in Public Relations because of his desire to be a teacher. He hails from Cocoa Beach, Fla., and his hobbies are camping, surfing, sailing and playing the guitar. Now that you know a little bit about Bill Forehand, why don’t you take the time to get to know him? His purpose as president is to be the voice of the student body. Why don’t you let him hear your voice? with regards to the system (rules, procedures, etc.) at BC. “People who have been getting in trouble are blaming themselves, not the system. Every year we have revised this system in an ef fort to come up with the best ; I’m not saying this year’s is perfect, but it’s the best we’ve ever had.” Dean Wray added that the reduction in severity of the pointe system, which he said students complained of last year, is one such revision that has improved both the system and the students attitude toward Brevard. “Our goal isn’t to punish the students, but to have them respect the system,” he added. “Students have more maturity and strength of character (then previous years),” stated Dr. Jacob Martinson, Brevard Col lege president. Dr. Martinson also believes that this year is the best in our history and that things are on the upswing. “While ap plicants to other area colleges have declined, student applica tion to Brevard College has been on the increase,” Dr. Martinson said. It’s evident that today’s student knows that college isn’t a country club but a place that costs money. And because of inflation, students are more financially aware; as a result, they intend to get their money’s worth. According to the ad ministrators, things are going more smoothly this semester than ever before. This is partly because of the system, but even more the result of the students. The administration feels that the students at Brevard are the best; The Clarion has to agree with that. BC students have been the key factor in making this year run smoother than any other year at BC. A good faculty, coupled with a good system and fine students make Brevard the right place to be. )uaiu» diiu 1 iw**' Drama Department Prepares For Upcoming Play by Lane Yates The Brevard College Drama Department is in its fourth week of rehearsal for the upcoming musical Once Upon a Mattress.
