Page 4 NEWS The Clarion September 29, 2006 Hearing on illegal copies of Master keys W Emily Wade's artistic rendering of the GRAND master key Graphic courtesy of Emily Wade by Tom Cowan News Editor On Sept. 21, Campus Life held two College Hearing Board meet ings regarding two students who allegedly made copies of Brevard College’s grand master key. According to head of Campus Life, Dean Sue Yowell, the stu dents were working for Campus life during August before school started; during this time Campus Life became aware that each of the students had a copy of the school’s master key, which opens nearly every door on campus. According to Associate Dean of Student Af fairs, Rob Seay, the students were issued the original master key for approximately a day, during which time their job was to prep dorm rooms for the upcoming semester Campus Life has been investi gating the situation, and Dean Yowell says that they no longer find reason to suspect that there are any other copies of the grand master key. The College Hearing Boards were held separately for each of the students because one of them was faced with an additional charge involving a stolen camera. This incident was, according to Dean Yowell, unrelated to the copying of the school’s master key. This student has been issued dis ciplinary sanctions, which he has until Saturday, Sept. 30'*' to ap peal. The other student facing only the charge involving the master key does not anticipate an appeal, and agreed to release his disciplinary sanctions for public record. These sanctions include student disci plinary probation, 7 hours of com munity serves, and apology let ters to both Rob Seay and Cam pus Security.
