October 12, 2007 \ The Clarion ARTS & LIFE Page 11 Costner crap-o-rific film of the week: Message In A Bottle by Aaron Palmer and Joseph Chilton Costnerologists Naming a movie after one of the most popular songs of all time is a box office trick that only the brightest of minds amongst producers could conjure up. The one snag is that everyone recalls the memorable hook from the song and forgets the replaceable face of Kevin Costner This release hit theatres during the long hiatus from classic rock band The Police while Sting was busy with his own new age career The move from his aggressive early years into the mellow adult contemporary was definitely a change in attitude and lifestyle for the infamous front man. In the long run however, it did not hurt his fame or talent in any way. With the reunion of The Police that occurred this year, they were able to bring back their old sound with a new M ESSAGI FN A nOTTLL cleaner and stronger sound. True, they lost the speed and attitude that they once carried, but have successfully created a powerful show that displays the tight bond this trio has shared from the start. The Police, with a little practice have resurrected their music career and played sold out shows for months. Kevin Costner however, should have no such luck after turning out bombs such as this. I have never actually seen this movie, but the preview alone was torture enough. Please Mr Costner, stick to baseball. Have a favorite old movie that you think should be a "Dusty ol' Gem?"
