Siie recorded 22 points iast Sunday against Lander University. by Johnny "Stats" Lange Sports Editor Last weekend the Brevard College women’s basketball team opened their season in Jefferson City, TN. The Tornados however did not leave their opening weekend with a win, dropping contests to Lees-McRae and Lander In the season opener last Saturday, despite impressive collegiate debuts by freshman guard Holli Flippo (Kingston Springs, TN) and forward Lindsay Brendle (High Point, NC) the Tornados fell to Lees-McRae 68-54. Flippo shot five for nine from three point land for fifteen points on the evening while Brendle contributed with 10 points. Amanda Whittaker (Asheville, NC) chalked up a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds in a losing effort. The next afternoon the Tornados took on Lander University, and entered into halftime trailing by 21, thanks to the Bearcats full court press. B.C. was able to keep it closer in the second half, but lost 100-71. Junior Samantha Winn led the team with 22 points and 10 rebounds, while freshman Anna Schlobohm (Greensboro, NC) chipped in with 13 points and sophomore Amanda Whitaker just missed a double-double with 10 points and nine rebounds. “Right now we are still trying to get familiar with ourselves,” said Head Coach Shannon Reid. “In the second half of the Lander game we found some combinations that worked and started figuring out our system.” This weekend the Tornados travel to Due West, SC to take on Erskine College at 2 p.m. The game can be heard onWSQL 1240AM or at www.bctomados.com . Heading into the game Coach Reed is confident. “We are focusing on ourselves. The musical style of Bill Evan is a combination of bluegrass, jazz, funk and American soul called “Soulgrass.” Also touring with Bill Evans are violinist Christian Howes and banjoist Ryan Cavanaugh from North Carolina. The Porter Center's next show will bring another big name to the Porter Center, as 90's star Edwin McCain will be performing on Nov 29. McCain is famous for the love songs he belted out last decade, including "I'll Be" and "I Could Not Ask For More."
