Page Four Hie GasUgbt Student Newspaper GasUm College President's Corner On Dec. 7, President Scott began a program called “Dialogue with the President". Similar to “Dialogue and Doughnuts” from last year, this program is originated to give you a chance to talk directly with the President about any questions you may have that remain unanswered. Our President is genuinely conc.^med with the needs of each and every studtnt on campus. If there is a problem with the facilities or anything else on campus, don’t just gripe about it, take your questions to the President during a “Dialogue with the President” session and voice your thoughts. You’ll be suprised to find that in most cases they are already working on the problem. “Dialogue with the President” is established for your benefit — take advantage of it. Gaston's law When it rains on a school day it will probably rain harder between classes. The first big snow will come the day after the last big test! Just about the time you get your new schedule down pat, they close one of your classes. The worst thing about tomorrow is that it always comes too soon. About the time you get your computer project just about finished, they change your project. The time you finally get a seat at the computer, the system goes down. The very minute you figure out what you need to do to finish your computer program, your time runs out on the computer. Club notes Editor’s Note: Club Notes is a section of The Gaslight that will be set aside in each issue for information clubs wish to relay to all students at Gaston College. GAM?L^ BETA PHI; Ti^e fall quarter has been a very busy one for the Gaston College Gamma Beta Phi Society. We started out with a “bang” on Labor Day weekend when some members helped with the Jerry Lewis Muscular Dystrophy Telethon. Other members “got physical” with a car wash held on campus l^pt. 24. The very next diy others traveled to Cleveland Tech. in Shelby for a day-long leadership Conference. Many members had a chance to attend this year’s Gamma Beta Phi state convention Nov. 5-7. The chance to meet members from across the state was an unfoigetiible experience. The fall induction of naw members into Gamma Beta Phi was held Sunday Nov. 14 in the Myers Center cafeteria. If you are interested in learning more about our organization and how you can become involved, please see Mr. Ken Davis or Ms. Judy Yates, our club advisors. Student Opinions By Eustace Conway £^)ecial to The Gaslight With my pack on my back and my path taking me deeper into the heart of tranquility and peace, I find reason to continue. My pack and it’s humble and yet vital contents give me a deep sense of security. I become a being of greendom. I find existing and growing with this sense of independence a spiritual awareness. A growing understanding for the essence of life envelops as I travel the path as a partner to nature. As I step over boulders and manuver my way over fallen trees, or cross a stream, I find in these obstacles a lesson. By guiding my perceptions to a broader level, I find myself comprehending and defining ideas of a new light. I am physically at rest, the mellow tunes of the forest soothe the nerves that the existence in my space-age society have led to decay. Between the alarm clock, my work schedule and my favorite television show I have not given myself the reigns to my own thought pattern nor my body a vacation to the tranquil state I find myself in here in the deep woods sharing with the natural world. Has it been the litter along the roadside or my constant rush that has caused my defiance of more natural instincts to observe the passing beauty of life? Surely my sight has not been apathetic nor my taste controlled? Or has my cidture really set up a propaganda scheme to keep me from evaluating what is taking place on this earth? Or is this day with nature a real awakening for me to a universal truth? Has Mother Nature been plowed under and tied in a dungeon? Is the scientific advancement and latest technology actually raping this humble mother to a submissive point of no return? I am finding myself witness to a crime in the first degree against so many other than myself. I must defend this case; I must speak to the jury, but wait, who is going to listen to my outcry? No, this burden is becoming too heavy. I believe I will seU this pack and go home and watch television. Maybe a good movie will come on tonight! You the students are the eyes and hears of Gaston College. If you see or hear of anything that may be of interest to The Gaslight, drop us a line. We have a box in the Myers Center.
