Fall semester 2010
marked the 20th annual
exchange between St.
Andrews and the University
of Cuenca, Ecuador. Since
the program began, more
than 200 students between
the two colleges have partici

“(The partnership
between) St. Andrews
Presbyterian and the
University of Cuenca,
Ecuador began in 1991,”
said Jeff Birdsong, assistant
professor of Spanish. “Kate
Hensley and Ion Youman,
who have ties to Laurinburg,
and serve as fiiculty in the
Departamento de Ingles in
Cuenca, have directed the
program since the begin

St. Andrews has seen a

members oversee the pro

classes in Ecuador during
summer semester.
“Generally, Ecuadorian
students are fully integrated
with American students at St.
Andrews,” said Birdsong.
“They have American room
mates and attend classes with
American students.”

integrated with Ecuadorian
students in classes.
“St. Andrews students in
Ecuador usually take lan

Birdsong. “Because they

es, the Youman family and
the University of Cuenca go
to great efforts to integrate
our students with
Ecuadorian faculty, particu

Birdsong provided the
