Recording studio offers
for students in ECSU's

Studmts seeking a career in the glam
orous field of recording and music mer
chandising need to k»k no fartfter than
the Music Department in Wilhams HaH.
A new major, the Music Industries Pro
gram, offers students the chance to tern
aU facets d the music business—inchid-
ing how to n^ea record.
In the summer oi 1991, ECSU com-
pieted workona24-track,S360^,state-
of-the-art recording studio for the majors
in the program, according to Barry HiH,
technical engineer for the stiidio.
“The 24-track tape recorder b an in-
dustiy standard," said HiTl. “I can record
24 separate musical parts, and the system
allows me to record all parts of a song at
difiierent tunes." Hfll added that can

song after the initial recording.
About 4C students are enniied in the
Music Industries Program, including 13
freshman. The department also offers a
corvcentration in Music Engineering and
Technotogy and Musk Adjmiru-
stration.

no other school in the University of North
Carolina system offers this program.*
Hill said. This is an opportimitv for stu
dents to gain handsHXi experience in a
first dass recording studio. Students are
abie to learn the business from tt« ground
up. They learn how to produce qualitv
music, they gain an understanding of the
business aspect of the nnisac ii^ustrv
and they complete their studies with a
senior project that involves producing
and recording a record.*
The studio offers students an opportu
nity to gain ad\-anced technical skills,
