Embryonic development is shown by Mrs. Linda Tripp Wes Shrewsbury explained 'mathematical systems during Science-Mathematics Day. The biology demonstration gave the visiting high school students the opportunity to look at “strange things" under the magnifying glass. Physics students created interesting designs as part of Science-Mathematics Day. Cafeteria Committee Suggests improvements March 5 This is not the laboratory of a mad scientist but one of the physics experiments performed for visiting high school students during Sdence-MathemaScs Day in Camp Hall March 5. The Cafeteria Committee met Friday, January 23,1976 with the following members present; Ben Sutton, Chairman; Danny Deskins, Food Service Director; Dean Roy Winslow; Dean Gloria Yount; Carl Simmons; Bill Sowell; Sarah Wright; Jim Dale, S.G.A. President; Lini Knight & Mary K. Franklin, Belk Hall; Mike Pattercket, , parker Hall; Mike Hillis, Mixon Hall; Harry Baird, West Hall; Mike Pat terson, Editor of Smoke Signals, sent Nelson Nichols in his place. Mr. Sutton called the meeting to order asking for suggestions and observations of the committee in the food service. Jim Dale stated he would like to see hot chocolate served again in the cafeteria. Mr. Deskins said the machine is broken and thus far has not been able to repair it.There is consideration of serving the packaged instant chocolate as the tea bags are used. There were comments about the abuse of this privilege by taking packages and tea bags to the rooms. A suggestion was made that these could be given out on the line instead of outside availability. The number of packages per person could be noted. Mr. Deskins informed the committee that he is now doing a menu revision and would welcome suggestions. One student suggested discontinuing the meat loaf but others liked it. Tliere were comments about popular food items being served the same day. For example, grilled sandwiches and macaroni and cheese. After discussion it was agreed that individual tastes vary until complete satisfaction is impossible. The “quick breakfast” line is being appreciated. It is open from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. This allows students to go through the line in a short time picking up finger food. Mr. Sutton said there is con sideration being given to per manent installation of line rails. The blocking off of lines seems to have eliminated much line breaking. The general appearance of the cafeteria after painting during Christmas break was noted. Consideration was given to the slow moving lines while replacing empty milk containers. The wasting of milk while the machine is outside the line is so great there is no other alter native. Mr. Sutton suggested members start thinking about “Highlight Dinners” during the spring semester. What type decorations and music could be used. Suggestions should be presented at next meeting. Mr. Sowell suggested the Chowan band play during an evening meal. The playing of the band seemed to have been enjoyed by everyone last year. Mike Hillis said it had been cold in the cafeteria partcularly during breakfast. Mr. Sutton said this had been taken care of There is consideration being given to enclosing a walkway down the side of the cafeteria forming a cold air trap. Everyone agreed this would be a fuel saver plus increase comfort. A closer check on the supply of soap and paper towels in the bathrooms is needed was the observation of Jim Dale. They generally smell bad, also. The meeting adjourned at 10:55.- Sarah Wright, Secretary Campus Carnival Set For April 24 Our candidates for the Spring Festival Court have been chosen. In case of rain the Campus Carnival will be cancelled. The meeting was called to order by Jim Dale, President of the SGA and President pro temp of the student Legislature, at six o'clock in Marks Hall. The first business brought before the group concerned the resignation of the Vice-president of the SGA, Robert Walker, and the appointment of a new vice- president to serve for the remainder of this semester. The constitution of the Chowan College SGA states in Article 3, Section 1. Officers, under part B, the duties and responsibilities of the President of the SGA. These duties include: Make appointments to fill vacancies in the Executive Cabinet which occur between elections. Such appointments must be approved by a voting majority of the Student Legislature upon recom mendation of the Regulatory Committee. Jim Dale, President of the SGA, appointed Joe Higgen- botham for the position of Vice- president for the remainder of this semester. A vote was taken and Joe was unanimously ap proved by the Student Legislature to take this position. Due to the absence of Steve Gegg, Social Co-chairman, Jim Dale made a report on the up coming social events. There was a Fifties Dance held on Thur sday, March 4 in Thomas Cafeteria. Plans were made for those who would help selling drinks and those who would take up money at the door. Next, Jim Dale reported on a meeting he had held with Dean Qayton Lewis concerning the revisions to be made in the Handbook. Due to the fact that most of the members of theConstitution Committee had either left Chowan or were no longer members of the SGA, Jim made new appointments for this committee to meet with Dean Lewis. The new members of this cook tm uwc committee will be: Jim Dale, Richard Greene, Dave Leber, Kathy Franklin, Rich Brown, and Tim Davis. Jim announced that he would set up a time for the committee to meet with Dean Lewis to discuss the revisions. He also asked that each member of the committee review the Handbook before the meeting is held. A tenative date for the meeting was set at March 8, Monday, at ten o'clock in the morning. Dr. Earl Parker told the group that these revisions would be a supplement to the Handbook for next year and would not involve the printing of a whole new constitution this printing. After this, Jim Dale discussed the upcoming SGA elections. He asked that the members of the group seek out candidates for the offices because there has been no response to the article that was printed in the Smoke Signals. Dave Leber made a report on the work of the Campus Im provement Committee. He was able to report that Mr. Hassle has attempted to adjust the water pressure in all of the dorms so that there will be no more bur nings in the showers. There were reports that the problem was better in Belk Hall and West Hall. A report from the En tertainment Committee, showed the results of the vote that was taken in Chapel Assembly con cerning the Spring Concert. The Qsults of the vote were in strong favor of having an April Jam that will feature three groups playing for a tew hours. TTie group suggested that there be another vote held in Chapel to decide what bands should play. This would eliminate the problem of nobody liking the music that was provided. Kathy Franklin made a report on the events that have been planned for the Women’s Awareness Month. These plans include: (1) A fashion show, Tuesday, March 9, (2) A talent show after Spring Break, (3) Frank Stephenson speaking, Monday, March 8, (4) A mixer to be held in Belk Hall, AND (5) Tours given of the Columns Building on March 2 and 4. These tours were to be given by Mrs. Whitaker. It was decided that the next meeting will be held on Wed nesday, March 10 at six o'clock in Marks Hall. The meeting was adjourned by the new Vice-president, Joe Higgenbotham. V ' \ Gilbert Tripp talked on agricultural chemicis and their growing popularity. Tom Kenney, former Life-Time photorapher gives a guest lecture on fashion photography to Chowan sophomore photography class. 1 'ng...THe Lune.
