Evaluation Forms In;
Tabulations Started
By BRUCE WRIGHT
In accordance with the Sou
thern Association’s suggestion
that students find some effec
tive method of evaluating in
struction at Wesleyan, the Se
nate, spearheaded by Ed Gunt
er, undertook a project direct
ed toward this goal. In Jan
uary, the Senate established
the Subcommittee on Course
and Teacher Evaluation. This
subcommittee, chaired by Ed
Gunter, includes Beth Speake,
Doug Kozlowski, Bruce Mill
er, Dennis Hayek, Barbara
Brown, and Bruce Wright. Af
ter studying the methods of eva
luation used at various other
colleges and universities, this
committee decided on the Har
vard form.
The forms were distributed
during the week of February 15,
and students were asked to com
plete and return the forms by
Friday, March 19. The forms
were then distributed to the
committee members by depart
ments and tabulation of the re
sults were made during the
break. Each committee mem
ber was responsible for deter
mining the average grade given
to each course and each instruc
tor, and summarinzingthe com
ments and suggestions given in
the open-ended section of the
evaluation form. Of the 2700
forms that were printed (as

student), approximately 2400

Planned By Interfaith
The Inter-Faith Commission
in conjunction with the Faculty
Religious Life Committee plans
a series of worship programs
for the Wesleyan community on
March 9-11. On March 10,
the Chamber Singers of N. C.
Wesleyan will sing a Folk Mass
written for them by Dr. John
S. Davis. This folk mass will
be presented in Garber Chapel
at 7:30 p.m. On Tuesday and
on Thursday evening, the Re

Street United Methodist Church,
Raleigh, will present two of his
worship celebrations. These
celebrations are modern forms,
contemporary forms, of wor

timistic about their contacts and
some reported that they had al
ready had their contacts apply
here. A number of recruit
ers encountered problems in
their high schools because of
lack of interest among the stu
dents. One girl said that her
guidance counselor told her that
the seniors were disinterested
in college recruiters at that
point because they had held
college day the previous week.
Some encountered problems
entering the schools because
of exam times and other acti
vities.
Many recruiters spoke to ju
niors as well as seniors who
expressed interest in advance
standing and early acceptance.
The steering committee and
the admissions office are now
compiling figures on the num
ber of contacts and applica
tions received to determine
credit for recruiters.

have been urged to contribute
by the Activists since Wesley
an is competing for the College
Bowl Award.
This award is given to the one
college in the Tidewater area
that donates the most student
blood to the Red Cross on a
percentage basis. Some Wes
leyan students have contribut
ed in earlier city drives giving
Wesleyan a 27 pint head start.
On> February 16, the college
was informed by the Red Cross
that Congress had abolished the
requirement that students under
21 must present a parental per
mission form. Now any per
son that has reached age 18
may donate his blood.
The Bloodmobile will be in
Everrett Gym on March 10
from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Though
80 pints have been pledged by
Wesleyan students, there is a
need for almost 80 more pints
as our quota is 155 pints.
