Adgers says
he 11 speak
for students
By GREG PURCELL
This semester has start^ off
slowly for the SGA. Last year’s
Executive Board did not leave
current board members enough
information to make a smooth
transition into this school year.
Now, midway into the first se
mester, things are up and running.
Terrell Adgers, this year’s
president of SGA, said “1 am will
ing to fight the fight.” He is will
ing to work hard so the students
have a voice. “We have a “good
senate with the right leadership,
though a good senate is no better
than the people that they repre
sent,” he said.
Adgers said that his job as
president is “to be the go-between
to the students and faculty, to
make sure the school doesn’t
overtook the students, and to set
a course for the senate.”
He added, “I know what seg
ments of the students want, not
all but I am damn sure going to
do my best to find cut.”
Yearbook
photo stirs
controversy
By FELICIA M. DAY
Tension has arisen on the cam
pus of North Carolina Wesleyan
^ College with the distribution of
the 1995 D/.v.ven/er yearbooks.
A section of the yearbook fea
tures guests of a campus Hallow
een costume party. Among the
guests pictured was a student
dressed as Aunt Jemima on page
26. The photograph alludes to a
controversial race issue because
the student’s face is covered with
black make-up and the caption
above the photo fails to identify
the student. However, all other
individuals pictured in the year
book are named.

Student Government Associa

he found the picture offensive.
“The fact that it was printed
offended me more than the fact
that he (the anonymous student)
took it (the picture). It bothers
me as a black student and as SGA

of thing went on at Wesleyan,’

because it will look like I did noth

“A yearbook staff is supposed
to be a safeguard to oversee ma

Apparently this didn’t work,” he
said.
SGA Vice-president, John

North Carolina Wesleyan may
not have vacancies in three upper

much longer. The committees of
these positions have been work

quick as possible.
Dr. Kenneth Finney is the
chairperson for the Vice Presi

“The committee has just put
out the ad for the position as of
Oct. 16,” says Dr. Finney. “The
committee has not heard any re

The Dean has the responsibil

president is absent. The Dean is
the administrator of the Academic
Affairs which includes the tasks
of recruiting faculty and academic
affairs staff, and teaching evalua

Dr. C. Dale Therrien is the
chair for the Vice President of
Academic Support/Dean of Adult
Programs. As of right now, he
said, “the committee is screen
ing candidates and they are doing
‘first cuts.’”
The Vice President of Aca

Programs runs the Adult Degree
Program and the Evening Col

The Vice President of Devel

headed by Dean Robert Busson.
At the present time the commit

When the final decision to be
