27 November 2002 3 Events It’s a Bird, no wait it’s a Blue Whale By: Tia Seifert President - Science Club On November 2, 2002 the NCWC Science Club took a trip to the NC Museum of Natural Science in Raleigh. The students there looked at all the marvelous array of things located at the museum, from the skeletons of birds and whales to the different types of rocks. The museum had live animals theje as well; they had a reptile exhibit with snakes, turtles and salamanders. Many students were fascinated to see not only the sculptures of animal and their habitats but also the live animals and their habitats. There is a hands-on exhibit in the museum that many students said would have been useful for the Botany lab of identifying plants because of the museum great plant library. This exhibit also had stuffed mammals, insects, and reptiles. The museum it great for all ages and I would recommend to any to go and check it out for them selves. After the museum it was off to the newest mall in Raleigh off Capital Blvd. for lunch, and some well deserved shopping. Pictured above are a few of the Science Club members in the mouth of a shark. The United Way then called on several groups including SNCAE to help paint the mural. Rocky Mount’s Mayor Fredrick E. Tumage, unveiled the mural during a ceremony held on Saturday, October 26. Those members of SNCAE who spent several evenings and Saturday painting were Sarah Stout, Vice President, Peggy Maines, Secretary/ Treasurer, Danielle Lackey, and Helen Davis. SNCAE (student chapter of the NC Association of Educators) members raised over $60.00 to buy gifts for underprivileged children in the Rocky Mount area this Christmas. The students held a bake sale on Wednesday, October 30, outside of the cafeteria in the Hardee’s Student Union building. Those members taking part were Evie Massenburg, President, Sarah Stout, Vice President, Peggy Maines, Secretary/Treasurer, Tina Boring, Helen Davis, Alice Harris and Danielle Lackey. I; Sis. Muses con’t from p.2 so war with Iraq, social security, the military- industrial complex’s hold on our government, CEO corruption - these intricately complicated issues are and should be difficult to understand. If only the radicals and only the politicians’ campaign managers actually know the issues, they not only set the agenda but also control the information we receive. And the fact is that they now do control the major media, so if we want real information, we have to search for it. If we want to live in a democracy, we are going to have to work at it a lot harder than we have been working. We are the reason numbskulls run the government. We are the reason that millions of people are without health care. We are the reason that more and more people live in poverty. We are the reason that oil is a reason for war. We are the reason the media doesn’t tell us the truth even when it is allowed to know it. We are the reason that more and more people think entertainment is a right worth fighting for but voting isn’t. We are the reason we don’t vote. ADP Sponsors Kids Votitij By Cathie McIntyre, Durham, NC For the third consecutive year, the Adult Degree Program sponsored Kids Voting, a national initiative that encourages children to participate in the voting process. Children from kindergarten age through high school were able to mark special ballots that were tallied by Measurement, Inc., an organization best known for scoring essays that are used for school admission. This year approximately 75 children voted at the Bethesda precinct, which was adopted bv the Durham ADP location. — Justice from p. 1 criminal justice departments in schools nationwide have an ACJA-LAE chapter. Once a year, regional competitions are held; and once a year, national competitions are held. For information on joining NCWC’s ACJA-LAE, contact any of the chapter officers or visit their website on the schoolOs list of webs for student organizations at http://students.ncwc.edu/LELB/>.
