Horse Race At Plant No. 4 The race horses on the knitter's percentage board at Plant #4 (which race started in May of 1961) are still creating much interest in the Knitting Department. Each Wednesday when the horses are re-set, each knitter and fixer is anxious to see if his horse is moving ahead. If his horse is gain ing, it seems to inspire him to make it keep moving ahead; and, if the horse is losing ground, he strives harder to catch up with the others. The winning machine set number is put on the board each week, along with the winners for the two preceding weeks. The overall percentage for the week is also put up so that each knitter and fixer can see not only how his line of machines is progressing, but also how the department as a whole is doing. Superintendent Howard Young says that by helping to keep the employees informed, the board has resulted in a lower percentage of bad work. Winner for the week ending April 13, 1962, was Set 8, manned by Dewey Bodenhamer and Auburn Pedigo, fixers; and Raleigh Hicks and Sam Neal, Jr. , knitters. Set 8 was also winner for the weeks ending March 30 and March 23. Winning the week of April 6, 1962, was set 26, manned by Ernest Harden, John Eller and Bobby Wilson, fixers; and Nancy Roddy, Lee Hester and Edith Cockerham, knitters. Coming in first the week of March 16, 1962, was Set 21, assigned to Coy Hester, David Tilley and Jolly Knight, fisiers; and Horace Johnston and Rich ard Edmonds, knitters. Set 18, looked after by Kenneth Idol and Willis Taylor, fixers, and Lawrence Stevens, knitter, was winner for the week of March 9.
