THREE EMPLOYEES RETIRE Due to an arthritic condi tion, VernellJ. McNeill, seamer. Plant #7, is retir ing on August 16. She has been phys ically unable to work since January of this year. Vernell was first employed by Adams-Millis Cor- Vernell McNeill poration in 1932 as an inspector. She remained with the company until 1935 when she left to look after her family. Before returning to work with Adams- Millis in 1952, she seamed upholstery at the Dallas, Knox and Briggs plants. Born and reared in Dunn, N. C. , Vernell Jones married B. W. McNeill in 1925 and moved to High Point in 1926. Her husband is machine room foreman at Globe of High Point. The McNeills have two children, Mrs. Geraldine Groker and Lawrence Mc Neill, both of the Trinity community. They reside on Route #3, High Point, and attend Fairfield Methodist Ghurch. Flora P. Setliff, p a i r e r , Plant #3, has re- tiired on the basis of age; she had been employed by Adams-Millis Corporation for more than thirty years. In 1917, she started her first public work, hem-Flora P. Setliff ming the tops of hose, with Adams- Millis Corporation on English Road; she transferred to pairing in 1918 and worked until 1920 when she married and left her job. She returned in 1935 - 3 and worked until World War II when she left again. In July of 1947, she came back to her job of pairing at the Grimes Street plant, later transfer ring to the English Road plant and finally to the Ed Millis plant in Kern- ersville when it opened in January of this year. Born Flora Pugh in Randolph County, she lived on her father's farm and attended Randolph County schools. She was married to W. D. Setliff who di^d in 1962. There were seven child ren, four girls and three boys, in the family. One daughter, Marie Mabe, is employed in the Shipping Depart ment of Plant #7; another daughter, Betty Craven, pairs at Plant #3. Mrs. Setliff is a member of Lebanon Methodist Ghurch; she lives at 515 East Lexington Avenue in High Point. Jim Pendry, stockroom. Plant #3, was retired July 29 on the basis of age, after thirty-nine years of continuous em ployment with Adams-Millis Cor poration. He had actually worked in Adams-Millis plants for over 50 years. Jim Pendry While still a ten-year-old student in the High Point City Schools, Jim worked afternoons after school, on Saturdays and during the summer months straightening long hose and laying them our with all the tops turn ed in One direction. The boarders gave him five cents for each lot he straightened in this manner. Jim said he sometimes made as much as forty or fifty cents per week. His first full time work with
