NEWS AROUND THE PLANTS Plant #1: Welcome back to lone Calhoun, of the Sample Department, who has returned to work. lone has been out since January, recovering from a broken ankle sustained in a fall when the ice and snow were on the ground. Lassie Crotts and Ruth Paige are recuperating at home after having been hospital patients recently. Hope they can be back soon, also. It's good to have Clarence Crotts back at work; he has been out for some time due to illness. The Machine Shop recently pre sented David Cleveland a trophy for winning two out of twenty-five games of checkers against Carl C, Cook. This is a record for David. Plant #2: Lorene West, Finishing Depart ment, has recently been a hospital patient. Hope she will be well real soon and back with us. Woodie Jessup, also of the Finish ing Department, has a new son-in-law. Her daughter, Shirley, was recently married to David Goins. Jean Shaw, a recent hospital patient, is missed in the Pairing De partment. We wish for her a speedy recovery. Mary Harvey recently enjoyed a trip to Texas. Mary is a pairer at Plant #2. Hope Virginia Nunn, forelady in the Finishing Department, enjoyed her fishing trip to Morehead City. Arnold Laxton attended a recent church conference in Tennessee. It 's good to have Thelma Venable back at her table. She has been in the hospital. Congratulations to Nellie Epper son, mender in the Finishing Depart ment, who became a grandmother not long ago. When you see Lane Willard bring ing ice into the plant these cool morn ings, please don't get the wrong idea. He's not out of his mind--the ice is for ice tea. Best wishes to Betty Cooke, recent bride. Betty is employed in the Pair ing Department. Present at the August 24 and 25 visit of the Bloodmobile to Mt. Airy were: Austin L. Edwards, Robert L. Willard, Gracie Harrison, Lilly Mid- kiff, Lettie J. Easter, Alice Bowman, Phyllis B. Scott, Dorothy Edwards, Wilma Fleming, Conrad Tillotson, Eunice Tilley and James R. Thompson. Robert Lee McGee, son of Allen " ’ and Nell McGee, re ceived his Master of Arts Degree in re cent exercises at Appalachian State Teachers College at Boone. A 1963 graduate of Wake Forest College, Robert was a teach er and coach at Dobson Elementary prior to entering graduate school. Presently, he is school counselor and basketball coach at Culpeper High School in Culpeper, Virginia. His mother, Nell, is a turn er at Plant #2. Plant #4: Ray Lackey, knitter of Plant #4, and Linda Womack were united in marriage on Sep tember 2 in Ches terfield, S. C. The newlyweds are making their home on Route #1, Walk- ^ ertown, N. C.
