College, the third annual Public V/elfare Institute for Negroes Social v;orlcers had their head- q_uarters at the College Auditorium Frj. 29, Ivlar. 1, 2, 1928. The principal sp'^akers v’sre ; Dr. in. D. Soper, Jad^e K._C. Brogen, Dr. Harry Vv. Crone, Dr. Franklin 0. lichols, Miss Llitohell, Lieut. Oxley, and l.Irs. Kate Eurr Johnson, State Commissioner of Public Welfare. The Freshman--Sophomore da bate held in Avery Auditorium Feb. 17 proved to be a great success. Although the Freshman were the victors, the Sophmores shov/ed gree.t ability as debaters. The "Kerry Makers" It is obvious that the "Merry Makers" do not desire to be thought to be in a state of seclusion; for, already they have announced the forthcoming of a great "Rejuvenation" on Mar. 30. The hearty support of all is asked for. The Parliamentary Law Classes, under the direction of Dr. 0'Kelly are making a great progress. The entire student body, espocislly the girls, are glad to have Miss Rush, the Dean of V/omen, ba.ck at her post of duty. Dr. Franklin 0. Kichols, a member of the American Hygine As sociation and the only widely knovm Kegro who devotes full time to the study of "Sex Relations" of our race, .addressed the student body, faculty, and friends on February' 15, 1928, in the Avery Auditorium. Again on February 21, he spoke on the "The Kegro Family and Some of it's Programs". On February 15, 19E8 Miss riell Ba.ttle Lewis, Publicist and aspirant for politico! honor from her county, Wake County, Address the students, faculty-, and i.ian; white and colored visitors in the Avery Auditorium on the subject of southern literature. Dr. Shepard introduced her to the audience in a language that v;ell bespoke hdr personal and traditional interest in inter-racial problems. SOCISTY N3;VS Commercial Club The Commeroie.l club mjt in Avery Auditorium March 7, 1928. The Sophomore class presented a very excellent program for the evening. V/e were also favored with the presents of Messrs. Chas. Ingram, s.nd R. Witherspoon. The Freshamn cla,ss will present the progra.m at the next meet4 ing. Messrs. R. Gibbs and M.
