pag,e 8 February 25, 1981 Four North Carolina Central University Students have been named Goodyear Scholarship recipients by the university’s departments of accounting and chemistry. Cromartie of St. Pauls; and Alfred Jones of Phiiadephia, are accounting majors. Not shown is Anthony Timmons, a sophomore accounting major from Fout Mutte, SC. The scholarships are part of the Aid to Education program of the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company Foun dation of Akron, Ohio, and are awarded to students in the accounting and chemistry departments on the recommendations of the department chairmen. The scholarships are based on need and academic perfor mance. Announcements Black awareness program tonight By Donna Marie Lee At 7:00 p.m. tonight, the Academic Skills Center will present a black awareness pro gram in the Student Union. The theme of the event will be the Black Experience in America: trials and tribulations of a people. Ms. loyce Blackwell-Little, a history instructor in the center, is serving as chairperson for the program. Students at Central and members of the Durham community will also contribute their services. The program will include narrative and poetic readings, dramatic interpretations and skits depicting the life of black people from 1619 to 1970. Frank Poinsetta, a native of Durham, will be guest soloist for the program along with Richard Massey and Group, presenting spiritual selections depicting black religion through these years. All English majors and minors are asked to attend a meeting in the Lounge, third floor of the Farrison- Newton Communications Building, on Tuesday, March 3, 1981 at 10:40 A.M. The topic of discussion at the meeting will be the grammar and composition examination of April 4, 1981 and the literature examination of April 11, 1981. The recently announced tests are designed to assist English ma jors and minors in assessing whether they have sufficient command of writing and readinbg skills to continue profitably in English. Those who are to take the grammar and composition examination are those who have not received a grade of C or above in the sections of English 1100 and 1200 designated for English majors and minors. Those who are to take the literature examination are those who have not received a grade of C or above in the sections of English 1300 or 1400 designated for English majors and minors. This group includes all those who have taken these courses in non-majors sections, regardless of grade. James P. German Club is sponsoring a one day trip to Bush Garden’s Old Country for April 11th and invites all interested persons to jion them. The cost of the one day bus trip is $22, which includes tranporta- tion and admission to the park. This price does not include food or any additional cost in the park. However, most of the rides and entertainment is without further charge.
