January 1971 ng 1971 the ram's horn I ■ i Delta Epsilon brothers. ■ Basking in the warmth of the real cool bon fire. Dr. Cottingham welcomed the alumni and expressed the thought that the best way to publicize SCC was through the Alumni Association. James A. Starnes, newly appointed co-ordinator of the Alumni Association, said, ''This alumni dinner was most successful, and a renewal of interest was expressed by the alumni present. The informality of the occasion enabled faculty and alumni to share ideas which should prove helpful to the future of Southeastern. Another factor which will offer strength to our association is that some of the alumni are now residents of this area. I am in the process of selecting some of them to serve on my executive committee. Few community colleges have successful Alumni Associations; but in my opinion. At 6 p.m., Saturday night, on the Chadbourn soccer field, a "non-bonfire" was held. Its purpose was to show SCC students, concern for air pollution. Approximately 40 fans and many of the basketball players were led in several cheers by the SCC cheerleaders. After the "non-bonfire", SCC met Lenoir Community College in what proved to be a very exciting basketball game, although SCC came out on the losing end by a very slight margin of 84-81. During half-time, Jane Leake, a sophomore English major, from Elizabethtown, was crowned homecoming queen. Following the ballgame. Dr. Cottingham and Randy Long, SGA president, sponsored a Presidents Reception. Ra-a-ape! ■ i#mecomlng Queen jContinued on Page 8 fi I' W m Leader of the pack.
