The Construction Company of Elon College presents their spring concert “Fab rication,” Friday, April 22, and Saturday, April 23, at 8 p.m. in Whitley Auditorium. This semester’s concert will feature 12 dances ranging from jazz, modem, ballet and even a western number. The Construction Company has grown to be a 25-member troupe, almost doubling since its beginning. This concert will be the fourth that the company has presented. Dance ensemble is a credit course and is also a part of the new dance minor curriculum now offered here at Elon. There is no charge for admission so lack of funds should not keep the seats empty in the auditorium. Every one is invited to attend. Hard work evident in play production by Penny Thomas Features Editor "How are things in Glocca Morra?” sang the wt of "Finian’s Rainbow” Thursday and Friday night in Whitley Auditorium. This theme song recurred throughout the play as members of the cast vibrantly sang and danced before an appreciative ludience that filled every seat in the auditorium. “Finian’s Rainbow,” is a musical comedy telling the tale of an Irishman named Finian McLonergan (played by Oray and his daughter Sharon (played by Darla S^ajO as t ey journey to America, to plant a pot of gold in hopes oi l>tcoming rich because as Finian said, “Everything ge s l>i*ger and better over here.” ,, Intertwined through the story are the problems or a leprechaun named Og (played by David Beahm) as he fductantly grows out of his green coat and short grwn knickers and begins to turn human and fall in love with the silent Susan (played by Britte Mauldin). Luckily though in Og’s transition form leprechaun to human, his ears reduce from huge leprechaun ears to norm ears. , , ^ There’s also a love story between Woody Malone (played t»y Steve Roberson) and Sharon McLonerg^, a story oi wuthem Senator BiUboard who realizes his bigotry ana f»dsm, and also a story of the fight for freedom an •lappiness of the townspeople of Rainbow Valley m Missitucky, USA. . . The famous pot of gold brings happmess and humM kindness to the Rainbow Valley people with the three wishes it possesses. . , . The whole cast of the production presented Department of Fine Arts, truly showed evidence of hard »'ork and precision practice. . u j Adapted from a book by E.Y. Harburg and Fred Saidy, the play “Finian’s Rainbow” revealed fine musical ana acting talent of some students here at Elon. The songs and lyrics showed no signs of shyness or lacK oi Wnfidence, and the actors’ words could be heard loud and (^lear even from the back of the auditorium. The mixed audience of students, faculty, parents m friends showed its approval and appreciation in a standing ovation at the finale of the play. Success of the olay of course is attributed to the cast ■nembers, and also to Cardon Burnham who designed ana lirected the staae and the music and all the ®«nagers of the stage, lights, artwork and to the orchestra *nd chorus.
