Thursday, September 12,1985 The Pendulum Page 7 Entertainment Blake, Bard team up for video While Shakespeare fans wait for the upcoming production of The Taming of the Shrew, Dr. Robert Blake of the English Department has also been getting ready. With the use of Elon’s video equipment, Blake has created a 74-minute video taf>e that will set the tone for the North Carolina Shakespeare Festival presentation of the play. Blake described this project as El Salvador play opens week’s Teach-In A Peasant of El Salvador, a play featuring Peter Gould and Stephen Stearns, will be presented at Whitley Auditorium on Monday at 7 p.m. The perfor mance will mark the start of the Teach-In on Central America which Elon College will host Monday through Wednesday. The play, created and perform ed by Peter Gould and Stephen Stearns, a two-man theater com pany from Vermont, has receiv ed standing ovations in 20 states and Great Britain since its first performance in 1981. The setting is a small town in El Salvador; the play focuses on the lives of one peasant family. Gould presents himself in the role of an aging hill farmer. The audience sees events in El Salvador in recent years through this gentle old man’s eyes. Steams portrays a wide varie ty of characters, including a son, a neighbor, a land reform officer, a government soldier, a plantation foreman and the late Archbishop Oscar Romero, fn whose honor Gould wrote«the play. The story islold with humor and sensitivi ty, interspersed with mime and music. Gould and Stearns joined forces in 1980, and since have twice won the Vermont Council on the Arts Annual Fellowship Award. Concert pianist Concert pianist Alan Weinberg will appear in concert at 8 p.m. Sept. 26 in Whitley Auditorium. Works include Mozart Sonata K.333, Chopin Etudes (selected). Ravel Jeuex D’eau, Gershwin Preludes, and Beethoven ’ 'Les Adieux'' Sonata. Weinberg is a newly appointed assistant professor of music at Elon.
