Your reporter asked the reasons lacrosse was not of fered as an intercollegiate sport at Elon. My reply was that there are three basic reasons: (1) Lacrosse is not an NAIA BLOOM COUNTY sponsored sport. (2) To my knowledge the only school in the Conference with which we are affiliated that has an intercollegiate lacrosse team is Guilford, and they participate through an NCAA auspices with which we are not affiliated. (I have since learned from Dr. George Tiylor that Pfeiffer has a team and participates through NCAA affiliation.) (3) We do not have the funds to hire a coach and sponsor another team at this time, I did not say that lacrosse is not recognized as a team sport by the NAIA nor did I s^ anything at all about Guilford being the only col lege we would be able to pl^ if we had an intercollegiate team. Dr. Alan J. White Athletic Director Editor s note: apologize for the errors. Reader wants chance’ for club To the editor: Lacrosse is a sport that is alive and coming on strong. The oij thing holding back the lacr club from becoming a team .spi is the athletic department. Wliy doesn’t the Elon athlel department give the lacrosse cl|^ a chance? Are they afraid of|a winner?
