Mark Bowers, travelled to Key Largo, Fla., during spring break for some camping and scuba diving. Key Laigo is the first island south of Miami, nestl ed between the Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic Ocean. “After a 17-hour ride, we set up camp at American Campgrounds,” said cadet Jean Chausse. “Once the tent was set up, our campsite looked just like the ‘swamp’ on ‘M.A.S.H.’ “Because of our extensive ROTC training, camp ing out with a tent and cots seemed luxurious com pared to sleeping in a dirt foxhole.” “Besides seeing schools of barracuda, we ex perienced no danger in the clear blue ocean,” Chausse said. “A diver’s main safety hazard is panic; about 90 percent of all diving accidents result from this. “The most difficult and dangerous part of the dive was trying to get back into the boat. With 7-foot ocean swells, the boating ladder on the back of the boat became a lethal weapon as it shot up and down with each swell. “We all felt like Jacques Costeau as we searched a World V/?iT II wreck for ocean life. Besides many violet and purple parrot fish, we saw a giant moray eel attached to the hull.” BUD LIGHT PRESENTS 1892.
