THE NDULUM Volume XVin, Number 14 Serving the Elon College Community February 21, 1992 THIS WEEK ■ Attention seniors, a job fair will be held on Tuesday in Alumni Gymnasium from 1-4 p.m. ■ The Elon College Wellness Program is sponsoring a stress management seminar on Wednesday at 4:45 p.m. in the special collections room of the library. ■ On Thursday, the men's basketball team travels to Salisbury to participate in the South Atlantic Conference tournament. ■ On Thursday, a voter registration drive will be held. From 9:30-10 a.m., a table will be set up at College Coffee. From 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., the drive will move to the lobby in the first floor of Long. ■ Elon Volunteers is looking for a student willing to tutor an area high school student in Algebra/Accounting. For more information, call Chris at ext. 2122. THE PAST One Year Ago: On Feb. 26, two students returning home from class found their apartment at #7 Sheridan Place on fire. Greek organizations recruit new members Women's Formal Rush produced the largest tumout in the history of Elon College. This year’s tumout of 226 beat last year’s record. The five sororities gave out 162 bids. On Sunday, 135 men went through Open House held in Scott Plaza. This was the most successful year in terms of recruiting for Elon's Greek organizations. Police program introduced Rogers Harrison The Pendulum Elon College students will be able to have all of their police- related questions answered ^lanks to a program created by an Elon student interning with the Elon College Police Dqwuiment. Valerie Leininger, a junior majoring in broadcast com munications. presented the new idea when asked by Chief Dan Ingle what could be done to improve relations between the police department and the students. The program is organized where students with questions, concerns or suggestions can send them to campus box 5439. Students participating in the program do not have to submit a name with the question but they do have to include an address to which answers can be forwarded. Committee studies academics Jennifer Hudson The Pendulum Committees comprised of Elon faculty and students arc working on the curriculum of the future. General Studies requirements are being reviewed for potential changes. Commiuee members felt it ■was time to update general studies requirements since it has been 10 years since the last revisions were made. "With the new general studies program, we are giving students the skills and knowledge that will help them become fully valuable and knowledgeable people," said Dr. Russell Gill, an English professor. So far, the committees have made no final decisions. They are still in the research phase of brainstorming and sharing ideas. The committees met in January to consolidate these ideas into two main goals. The first goal is to be prepared to create proposals over the summer for consideration by the See Studies,Page 4 Charity Apple Murray Glenn The Pendulum Elon College received a positive report from the reaffirmation committee representing the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. Committee members visited campus earlier this week as part of the association's reaccreditation process. "I think we have a lot to be proud of.
