After a lengthy search for a site within the Elon College area for a Habitat home, Elon’s chapter of HFH finally broke ground for their second full-scale house building project on Saturday. The land, located off of Ball Park Avenue, was donated by local businessman Edward Koury Jr. after HFH’s appeal to the Elon College Town Board for help. Habitat members are hoping to begin work next week after the lot is cleared. In a symbolic preview of what is to come through their efforts. Habitat members joined hands around the building site and envisioned the home that should be standing there this fall. The site is marked by a large sign, painted by freshman Alicia Becker, depicting Habitat members surrounding the globe. “We’re all different people from different places. We’re all here for different reasons, but we’re here to build a house, a Habitat house,” said John Barnhill, coordinator of volunteer services, who helped lead the groundbreaking ceremony. This Habitat house will consist of three bedrooms, with one and a half baths, a breakfast bar, kitchen, dining room and living room. The family who will receive the home has not yet been selected. “We’re really looking forward to starting the house and once we start, we’ll get a lot more volunteers,” said HFH secretary Meredith Webster. “We just urge everyone to get involved in the community and work to help others better their lifestyle.” The project is slated to be completed in the fall, while the Alamance County affiliate of HFH will continue working on the Elon home throughout the summer. ^ It s nice to see people coming together and wanting to see things being different. Not just expecting it, but acting upon it,” Habitat member Bobbie Cokendolpher said. “These are the people you know are going to come together and help one another and help others.” Slnnouncing tfie opening of a dinicaCpractice in psycAoCogy 6y Vakrie ^ ^ad^ett Licensed TsycAoCogist 116 "W.
