The Lady Fighting Christians cap tured the South Atlantic Conference crown for the third year in a row by finishing 7-0. Overall they finished 32-5, and were runner-up in the con ference tournament. " Going into the season our num ber one goal was to win the confer ence, and we did." said Head Coach Sue Leonard, ” We would have liked to reach the post season tournament, but we had a rough two weeks at the end of the season." " It's going to be a real help having girls like Priscilla (Awkard) back. She's a real leader out on the floor." Leonard said. However, she was quick to point out that you can't simply shrug off the loss of three players like Velma, Tracy, and Rebecca "Those girls gave so much to the team and the program," recalls Rebeccaa Raum Leonard, "During their playing years here the team has won 113 games." Last year they not only lost four seniors, but they also moved up a level into the NCAA, and still went 32-5. Senior Vehna Degree led this future. Pion's Picks Last week (4-1) Season (13-11) Salutations Elon students. I hope that all of you had a super time during this past weekend's homecoming festivities. It is a shame, though, that most of you who participated in the activities had to miss the Notre Dame- Florida State college football game of the year. Okay. Okay, let the games begin: Ohio State at Michigan If the Buckeyes win this game, their first Rose Bowl berth in years would be clinched. It would seem just a little crazy to go against Ohio State on an occasion such as this, yet something tells me that the Wolverines will gather up their pride at home and end the season on a triumphant note. New Orleans at San Francisco In my first column, I said that San Francisco was a dying team. At the midpoint in the season, however, it looks as if the niners have gotten the antidote, and the virus has moved on to a more saintly team. Look for San Fran to grab New Orleans and do some cajun cookin' of their own. Houston at Cleveland The Oilers have been getting their only wins against pansy teams, but the recent string of victories has restored their confidence. The Browns haven't lost a step with Todd Philcox, but that really isn't a good thing. Look for the Dawg Pound to be condemned by a sudden strike of Oiler victory, Pittsburgh at Denver , Here are two teams that could both make a run in the playoffs this year. The Steelers have a power defense that resembles the Steel Curtain of the '70's. John Elway is hot, and he knows how to get the job done, but I give the slight edge to Pittsburgh. N.Y. Giants at Philadelphia The Eagles play at the Vet to try to put an end to their five game losing streak. Dan Reeves has his team tasting a trip to the dance. The Eagles will get their* wings clipped in a Giant win; ■ ■ ■
