April 22, 1999 As a monetary culture with poor priorities, often times some of the best and brightest individuals seep through the cracks of academia. These motivators operate on a principle of regenerative reciprocity - that is, always giving back tenfold what one has received. As an integral part of a diverse learning community. The Pendulum seeks to recognize such individuals for their inspiration and perseverance, and for being the true class acts they are. In January, Pendulum editors began the task of polling students and faculty to ascertain the names of the true juggernauts of Elon. After receiving some 160 names, we then broadened the list to include students as well. Through an exacting evaluation process that included many large-scale observation sessions, interviews and informal conversations, we narrowed the list to include 20 faculty/staff members and 20 students. After a careful examination involving several criteria (and the removal of Pendulum editors from the student section), we held a closed-door, open-comment discussion of the remaining 40 candidates. At the end of the meeting, there remained only ten in each category. We now present to you the first publication of what he hope to make a tradition: “The Pendulum A-List.” We charge those powers that be with the simple challenge of doing whatever necessary to ensure that those included on this list continue to be recognized for their outstanding efforts and professional excellence. l»i 11 1999A-List ^ i IP Table of Contents Introduction: 11 Faculty and Staff: 12-14 Students: 15-17 Honorable Mentions: 18 This special pull-out section of The Pendulum was written by Jeff Sanders, Carrie Lancos, Alan Medeiros, Emily MacDonnell and Chris Rash.
