The ice cream eating contest was held in conjunction with the weekly farmers market; The Saturday, July 24 activities included a fashion show, live music and local venders who set up booths for their customers. “There’s nothing really going on in July,” Scoops Express Owner Rodney Sutherland said. “I wanted to help bring some people to town and give people something fun to do. There were three different ice cream eating contests broken down by age. The winning time of the day went to Jeff Ellis who finished a pint of chocolate ice cream in a 1 minute, 33 seconds. ALL PHOTOS BY ANNA JOHNSON | Photographer Less than three miles from Elon University, Gibsonville held its first Ice Cream Eating Contest^ The event was hosted by Scoops Express, located at 203 E. Main St. Three ice cream contests where held for different ages: 6 to 10 years-old, 11 to 18 years-old and +19 years. Above: Christopher Kincheloe won first in the teenager contest. He finished his pint in 1 minute, 44 seconds. With chocolate still on his face he said, “I just really wanted that ice cream.” 1 Above: Cassidy Boyd, 9, of Mebane, came in second place in the 6 to 10 year-old contest. She tied with Austin Capps, 10. First place went to 9-year-old Olivia Young and third to her younger sister Samantha Young, 7, both of Gibsonville.
