McMichael, following a $3 million donation. Members of the McMi chael family were in atten dance of the dedication cere mony, including McMichael’s daughter, vice chairman of the board of trustees Gail Drew and family. The cere mony opened with an invo cation from Chaplain Rich ard McBride and included a tribute to McMichael by Fred Young, former president of Elon College. President Leo Lambert formally dedicated the build ing to McMichael and pre sented him with a replica of the plaque that currently resides on the building, in dicating his contribution to the school. Lambert said the first goal of the Elon vision became a reality with the completion of the McMichael Science Center. Lambert said McMichael’s commitment and generosity to Elon College has been un paralleled” and that his dedi cation has always been to the quality of students’education. r'sDay 2012. As well as being the Christopher H. Browne Distinguished Profes sor of Psychology at the Universit)’ of Pennsylvania, Duckworth is the founder and CEO of Character Lab, a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing the science and practice of character development for students, Duckworth is the faculty co-di rector of both the Behavior Changs for Good Initiative and Whartoii People Analytics, two programi within the Wharton business school of the University of PennsylvaTiia. Before dedicating her time to re search and advising, Duckworth was an award-winning math and science teacher who founded a summer school for low-income children. Tickets to hear Duckworth speal at Spring Convocation Thursda), April 5, are currently available for $13 or free with an Elon ID. Historic donation made to music production program An Elon University family donat ed $1 million to the music produc tion and recording arts program, tk largest in the program’s history. Tk donation will go toward updating tlr studio and equipment, along wilt providing a guest artist master dass that will allow students to interact with professionals in the field. The gift will allow for advances in technology and equipment, enabling the program to advance even furthei as a leader in music production and recording arts education. This will al low Elon to compete with collegiate programs including Berklee College of Music in Boston, Indiana Univer sity, University of Miami and Bel mont University. The equipment is scheduled to be installed by fall 2018, and the program has already booked its first guest artist master class. The donor wishes to remain anonymous. Elon to show Latin American Documentary Series Elon University’s Latin American studies minor program is hosting the first Latin American documen tary film series consisting of two feature-length documentaries an a closing event featuring Jose Bala- do-Diaz, the founder and director of the Peruvian artistic organization DocuPeru. The first documentary, “When Two Worlds Collide,” showed Wednesday, March 28, but the pro gram will screen the Guatemalan film “500 Years” 6:30 p.m. tonights Carlton Commons. The final event will feature Pejn vian director Balado Diaz and documentary, “Building a Nad^^ Photo Album: Democracy and ^ dia Access - The DocuPeru Expe rience,” 7 p.m. April 12 in Turner Theatre. This series of films delves m some of the most significant pro lems facing Latin America today.
