New contracts have been signed with New York personal agents for the Sirelles for the Saturday night dance and the Modern Folk Quartet for the Sunday afternoon concert. A group is being lined up for the Friday night concert. More publicity will follow on these groups. I will conclude by saying that booking is an extremely tricky business especially when you have no previous experience in this field. If any one desires more information on the complications involved in booking, please pay me a visit. I welcome your interest and questions. PRACTICE teaching: ^Did practice teaching interfer with my work as thp S.G.A. President? The answer to this question is that although a student can practice teach and still do a good job in office,. I don't recommend it, FIRST SEMESTER REPORT TO THE MAROON AND GOLD: A question which seems to have aroused some excitement and perhaps bitterness in my report to the MAROON AND GOLD was why I only praised three committees (Homecoming, Orientation, and Parent's Day) and none of the oi:liers. The answer is easy and was stated in the report. These committees had completed their -iobs and were through for the year. I am well aware of the fact that other committees are doing excellent work. I also know that I have praised the committee chairmen to their faces,, and when the year is over, those committees will get on paper the pxaio« they deserve. Something else to consider is the fact that although everyone loves praise, praise is a haid thing to grant. When you praise a person or group, the tendency is for other persons or groups to feel slighted. One thing is a fact. Not everyone does his best, and every one just may not deserve praise. CRITICISM: Is the sharp criticism in the school mewspaper about the S.G.A. justifiable^ I do have a few comments pn this matter. Recently under attack is the non-athletic bus program,. It is agreed that money was appropriated in the 1964-65 budget for this program, and also that I, as a candidate stated that I would like to have buses sent to events other than college ball games. Certainly, I had reasons. I have always had a concern about activities for the student body. Athletic facilities do not abound on our campus (not because the administration doesn't see the need but because the money is just not available ), and the S.G.A., with its budget, cannot a3.ways provide the entertainment the students desire. Then what is there .left to try? One thing that could be done was to send buses to events off campus. In the fall, an attempt was made to send a bus to see the fliage in the mountains. The bus would have already been in the area because of the Western Carolina game, thus the expenses would not have been overbearing. At any irate, tliis bell never got through the senate, for it was defeated. Then camie the crys from the Maroon and Gold that buses were not being sent to non-athletic events„ Then a second idea entered the minds of Mr. Beals', the bus committee chairman, and myself. When is there nothing to do on campus? Second semester was the answer. Buses were lined up for the Peter, Paul, and Mary Concert in Greensboro and the Ringling Brothers and Barmum and Bailey Circus in Greensboro. Enough interest was,,- shown" iri’the concert to warrent paying for a bus; and therefore, a bus was sent. The circus bus did not have enough interest and was therefore cancelled. "'^Bu$es are planned for the following events this winter and spring: ' (1)/^ Professional Hockey Match, Greensboro vs. Jacksonville, March 7; (2) Johnny Mathiis and the Young Americans in concert, March 10; (#) the Harlerti Globetrotters, March 19,* and (4) the Ice Capades, April 10. If enough interest is shown, buses will be sent. If not, then they won t be sent. ’ T\^o other factors must be considered. We can only send buses to events which exist. Sometimes these events are on the same nights as Elon Coir^’a^ ‘events, and therefore, buses can't be sent. Secondly, Mr.
