Beale and I line up these trips for the students. If they want to take advantage of them, that is fine with us. If they don't want to take advantage of them, that too is fine with us. A second criticism was that my report maSe Student Government a bed of roses. Believe me it isn't. I could criticize, but criticism is not always the best way to get things donH. Two things were drilled into me as a boy, and it certainly wouldn't hurt people to have them drilled into them. Praise people when and if you can. Secondly, if ^you ' can’t say something nice, don't say anything. A third criticism concerned the lack of movies on campus. Again there is a reaspn. People believe that the Student Government Associa tion works like the Federal Government. Spend the money that needs spending and don't worry about where it is coming from. Maybe the Federal Government can go into debt each year, but if the S. G. A. goes into debt, somebody is in trouble with the law. That somebody isn't the Senate. It isn't the Vice President, It isn't the Treasurer. It is "Yours Truly." Movies were not shown on campms because 200 students have not paid S.G.A. fees to this day. Surely they will pay in May, but we don't have the right to tell the talent we book, or the people we rent.movies from, to wait until-May for the payments. We will work on what we have. If students wamt too wait Amtil May to pay S. G. A. fees, I guess thai't their privilfge, but the money they pay In May won't be spent where it should - on the people who pay it. It will be a nice nest egg for the next administration. S.G.A. needs to have the students pay now. For those of you who haven't paid fees yet, take this into con sider atiion. To conclude this report, I must say that the topics of consider ation were submitted to me by the C^pus Crier Editors. Secondly, my office is open to each of you. If you want to know the reasons behind any of my decisions, please stop;, by and see me personally. ^ this invitation also extends to , the Maroon and Gold who has yet to interview me about any of my decisions. Again, congratulations to the Carolinas* Conference Champs. Fred Stephenson, President One of the most recent committees to be appointed by Dr. Danie3ey; President of Elon College, is the Committee on Improvement of Instruction, The long-range plcin of the committee is to improve testing, grading and' instruction as well as to better student - faculty relationship,. / Last year under the leadership of this committee each faculty member evaluated the courses he was teaching, as well as to how well it accomplished its aims and how it could be improved. As a result of this rtudy certain suggestions as to good practices in instruction were included in this year's faculty handbook. The committee mieitibers felt that a representation from the student body would be quite practical in aiding them in their work. (One of the main objectives of this committee is that the faculty evaluate the students, as well as the students evaluate the teaching methods of the professors.) As a result four students were asked to make suggestions ’ on improvements that could be made in testing and grading.
