What qualificationd do you have for this office? I have been in the Student Senate for 2 1/2 years and during that time I have served on the Finance CoiTimittee and this year I was chairman of the Finance Cominittee. Righ now J am on the committee that is looking into the revision of the Honor System and Honor GodCo As for personal qualifications, I think perhaps the most important thing is my desire to serve the students. I have always had an inclination toward poJ.itics and right now I am in politics on a monor scale on tho state level. People generally say that a person who gets along v^oll with other people would be in a good position to be a politician. But this is not always true. A politician has to have convictions and be able to understand what his constituents want. I believe by using this office I will gain a great deal myself and will be able to make the student body stronger, make myself a stronger person, and perhaps make Elon College a stronger school. Because of the general discontent here on campus do you feel that this election will be based more on issues than personalities? Actually, 1 think that the election is going to be based on both. Sure there are many issues, but if you don't have a person with the personality to cope with these problems and to deal with the people involved then I don't think we can ever get any place. A person has to be able to get along with others and yet still make himself known. I don't approve of causing dissention among people such as th u.-^-alni'^':.ration, faculty and the students V I believe that you can get along with all three branches and r still command the respect of those factions above you such as the faculty and administration. This doesn't mean that you're going to adhere to what the facutly or administration has to say but it does mean that by working wlong with these factions that you will get more done. I am not going to turn myself over to them but I believe that more can be accomplished' by trying to work ’;ith the-.i:\ ins;:oad of against them. Do you forerjee any points of friction between the SGA and the faculty or administration? Yes, I suppose bhere will be friction. In any set-up such as we have here there will be some conflict, for v;e as students see things from a different point of view than the facutly or administration. Specifically, there will be some friction on such points as the Honor Court and the Honor System. In worlcing on the Honor Court Revision Committee I have seen evident points of conflict and I feel that by serving on this committee I have been able to understand all three sides of this situation. This should enable me to deal more effictively with this issue.
