VIEWPOINT by David Johnson Some Elon students—and, regrettably, a few faculty members—have been playing a new game called "Misinterpretation." The only necessary equipment is the first issue of this year's CAMPUS CRIER, specifically my editorial on school spirit, etc. The ob ject of this game, apparently, is to mis read and misquote as much as possible, make wild accusations and threats, and behave m an unreasonable manner. (Maybe the CRIER will replace LSD!) The end result is that I have been condemned and praised for sup posedly advocating certain things (such as abandonment of the entire athletic program) which were never even inferred by my ar ticle. The most absurd notion in this whole con troversy is that somehow I libelled the head football coach. If disagreeing with someone on an important question consti tutes libel, then we'd better hold a funer- T al for freedom of speech on this campus, certainly have no ax to grind against any individuals in the Athletic Department, ex cept that some of them tend to minimize or ignore the amount of support they are re ceiving this year from Student Government. I have been told by several persons that I was "picking on" football players, which is
