MAY 16,1990 - WCC CAMPUS VOICE 5 SGA elections result in new reps By; Tim Below On Tuesday, Apr i1 3, 1990, the WCC Student Governmerit Assoc i at i on (SGA) held annual elections. The candidates -for SGA o-f-fices were Michael Suggs and Mary <Kat) Crews •for President, Derek Eubanks -for Vice President, Thomas Taylor and Ronald Lane -for Treasurer, and Chrissy Gunther -for Secretary. Uhen the uotes were counted, Suggs, Eubanks, Taylor, and Gunther were elec ted. Suggs, 23, is a -first year student in the Recreational Grounds Management Program. A wall will be construc ted across the main hall at the entrance to the Auto motive Lab. Students and sta-f-f will continue to have use o-f restrooms that are on this hal 1 . According to Anderson, the classrooms a-f'fected wi11 be moved into the double-wide trailers U, U, and U. Agriculture instructors are now occupying A-38, A- 38A, and A-51. Automotive instructors are located in the old registrar's area except chair Jack Byrd, located in A-51. The Automotive lab will remain in use by the col 1ege. In the -future two o-f the seven service bays will be shared by the college and UR with the college having top priority on one and VR on the other. Construction on two new buildings on the North Campus is expected to begin as early as June. These bu i1di ngs will take 20 months to complete. Upon completion o-f construction on the North Campus K and B Buildings will be vacated with the exception o-f the Automotive Lab. He is a member o-f the goH team, volleyball team, and is also a member o-f Si gma Delta Kappa ■fratern i ty. He enjoys -fishing, gol-f, artwork, and hunting. Eubanks is a -first-year student majoring in av i at i on. He has attended N.C. State University -for two years where he served on the Union Activities Board <UAB), part o-f the Student Government at State. Wh i1e on the UAB he served as 'v'P -for one year, and was chairman o-f the recreational Committee -for one year. Photo; Liz Meador Foundation raises $94,000 BY: Shari Wooten According to Jo Ann Bruce, Executive Director o-f the Foundation o-f Wayne Community College, "The WCC Campus and Community Fund Drives have raised $94,000.00 -for 1989-90." The Foundation has also received a tSO.OOC anonymous gi-ft. The Foundation, with an endowment o-f $96,000, enhances the growth and development o-f WCC. It also gives aid to students in the -form o-f scholarships and emergency -funds. On March f3, 1990, the Foundation Board approved several requests -for •funding to begin July 1, 1990. Gunther is 19 years old and has been accepted into the Dental Hygiene Program. Four WCC students received scholarships -for the spring quarter 1990; Tammie A. Denton, Yolanda Bryant, Deborah Allen, and Mary Harr i son. On May 8, the Foundation sponsored a donors-' appre ciation dinner -followed by a jazz concert at which Eve Cornelious, vocalist, and Chip Craw-ford, pianist, per-formed. Pr i or to the concer t, Craw-ford traced the history o-f jazz and Cornel ious spoke about jazz styles to the audience o-f donors. The Foundation has -funded several -functions during the spring quarter includ ing the May 11 -fashion show, “Romance at Sea," a project o-f the Fashion Production course taught by Sharon Thorton. She is a member o-f the Si gma De1ta Kappa Fraternity, and enjoys dancing and cheer 1eading. Se e “The Be -s. t j: o-f the Ban'd :■ Max 1 <£. — 20 Other events -funded by the Foundation were the Job Fair, the Math Contest, a dental seminar and purchase o-f plaques -for the Nursing Department. An annual project, sponsorship o-f a dramatic production, will be a Shakespearean -festival, "The Best o-f the Bard." This selection -from Shakespeare's plays and sonnets will be per-formed May 16-20 at 8:30 p.m. in the amphitheater, North Campus. Ui si t i ng art i st Tony Medlin will direct a cast that includes -facul ty, sta-f-f, students, and community supporters. Faculty members Rosalyn Lomax, Marian We-, brook, Kathryn Spicer, Ron Taylor, Pam Price Medlin, and Dyna Peeler, WCC student, will per-form in this production. Je-f-f Decker, Candy Smith, Liz Gri-f-fiths, Rich Bernste i n, and Terry Jackson are per-formers -from the community assisting wi th the -fest i val .
