SUMMER CONFERENCE OF STU DENTS IN THE BLUE RIDGE MOUNTAINS. W. H. Morgan. "Save a dollar a week" is the title of a placard going to each student Y. M. C. A. in the South at this time This is an advance word concerning the unique gathering of students held every summer in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains. "Blue Ridge" is a pla'ce unsur passed in natural beauty, conveni ence and comfort. Located near the mountain village of Black Mountain, and only fifteen miles from Ashe ville, it is increasingly becoming the play ground for the entire South. Here are the most majestic moun tains of the entire Eastern America —High Top, the Craggies, Black, the Seven Sisters, Clingman's Dome, and Mitchell, the highest east of the Rockies. Mountain climbing, there fore, as well as sight seeing, kodak ing, and the like, always occupy a prominent place in one's stay at Blue Ridge. And abundant facilities for tennis, baseball, volley-ball, basket ball, and swimming, complete the list. The equipment, too, furnishes every necessity. The sipacious Rob ert E. Lee Hall and the numerous cottages built by the colleges furnish the most comfortable "quarters." The grounds and buildings are all supplied with electric lights, water works, sewerage and every other modern convenience. It is here that the men convene their conference just after the close of the college women's gathering. It is here tha't the studnts gather for addresses for Bible study, Mission study, for round table discussions, for enlarged conceptions of, and thorough training in, the whole pro gram of religious work in the col leges and preparatory schools. It is here that men have often secured aid on their life work. And it is here tha't men have often secured aid on their life work. And it is here through comradeship one student with another and with great student leaders like Robert E. Speer, Bishop McDowell, E. T Colton, Dr. E. M. Poteat, Dr. O. E. Brown, Prof. H. H. Home, Dr. W. D. Weatheriford, and others, that men have caught a new vision for themselves, as well as a new sense of their responsibility to their fellowmen. I't is here, in short, that men have been inspired to do their work. Over four hundred men were in attendance at this gathering last June. Already scores of students are planning for the next one—June 12-21, 1917. FACULTY RESOLUTION. The following extract from the minutes of the meeting of the facul ty on Monday, Feb. 26' th, 1917, ex presses a feeling universal thruout the college regarding the death of Professor W.lvite: "We keenly feel the loss that the death of our friend and fellow-labor er has brought to us all and express our hearty appreciation of his fidel ity to every duty and his untiring activity for nearly twenty-four years, during which period he has been connected with the college." 'Miss Una Seal spent Saturday and Sunday in Greensboro visiting rela tives. THE GUILFORDIAN LETTERS TO GUILFORDIAN. (Nothing under this head is neces sarily endorsed by the Board or any member.) A fellow subscriber to The Guil fordian wrote me some days ago say ing that he was not receiving his Guilfordian regularly and if I too was having the same difficulty to please let it be known to the paper. Since I did not receive two of the seventeen copies issued at the date of this writing, I am hereby asking permission to make this known through your letter column. Now for the letter to be worth while it should suggest a remedy for this condition, and while there are many who will disagree with this, I think that a more strict attention to the particular business at hand, when mailing the papers, would give better results. For instance if I get fifteen out of seventeen copies print ed it is evident that the address is correct and that the copies are either lost in 'the mail or the name is miss ed when going over the mailing list. Both are possible but since there is so much complaint it is likely that the mistake is often made by the business managers. We know that this board is com posed of boys and girls and it is the business of both to help in this work, but if—"as certain of your own poets have said"—the girls who can help on this particular afternoon largely determine the particular boys who can assist and vice versa, it is time to make some of the mem bers responsible and see that they know and do the work. Better results could be obtained, the writer thinks, by making one man responsible for the mailing, let him pick his assistants, and always be on hand to see 'that this is a busi ness meeting and not a social gather ing.
