Three more Choir Concerts
by Sally McAlister
On Saturday, May 8 at ten
o'clock, the Guilford College
Choir will sing the last of its
programs for the present year,
'75-'76. This commencement
program, given for the
Guilford graduates, will in
clude "Onward, Ye People!"
by Sibelius, and "Ain' A That
Good News" by Dawson. At
six o'clock on the night before
(on Friday), a dinner will be
given for the graduates and
their parents. During this
time, the choir will give a
short "Pops Concert", sing
ing selections from "Westside
Story" and "The Sound of
Music", a medley of songs by
Sigmund Romberg, "No Man
is An Island", and "Beautiful
Savior" (which is the
traditional ending song). It's
for this latter song that we
always ask any and all former
choir members in the audience
to join us.
On Tuesday, April 13, the
choir (as a final gathering
before everyone "disperses")
went to Binford Farlow's for a
delicious picnic of barbecued
chicken. During our meal,
most enjoyed by all, (thanks to
you, Mr. and Mrs. Farlow),
Ed Lowe opened a gift from
the, choir which included a
large briefcase and around
$5.00 worth in Tic-tacs!
We'll really miss you
seniors in the group: Kathy
Hood, Carol lnglis Aki,

M.C. Davidson, Ted Egerton,
John Wilson, George Steele,
It's been
a full and fun year in choir,
and I hope that the other new
members join me appreciation
to you' "older" members and
Ed for the many fun times
we've had this year. (Our fall
picnic, Choir Tour especially,
and our picnic on Tuesday - to
mention a few). Signing off
until next year, I feel that
those of us who are new
people gained much from our
year in choir and hope there are
more of the same to f0110w...
I think that special mention
should be made concerning
the special performers that
were on the 1976 Guilford
College Choir Tour. Number
One is our super
director - Ed Lowe. Our
soloists Mary Anne Brown,
Lark Wellborn, Barb Smith,
Donna Beck, David Haworth,
Ruthanna Haines, and Jeanne
Towe. Our pianists were
David Haworth and Barb
Smith, and Sara Beth Terrell
and Gary Farlow for special
music. Additional numbers
were done by Eric Jackson,
Jim Hood and Ruth Shaw,
Donna Beck, Jerry Sowers.
Bob Gold and Ruthanna
Haines, and Kathy Hood and
Rob Mitchell. (Plus a number
by the chamber group and the
men in choir- The Men's
Ensemble). Barb Smith, Donna
Beck, Kathy Hood and Carol
lnglis sang a quartet.
