November, 1951 THE FULL MOON Page 7 European Affairs Topic of Program Don Bolt, an Executive club speaker who has traveled all over the world, spoke on Euro pean affairs in assembly on Oc tober 16. In his talk Mr. Bolt said that the main causes of Communism in Europe are (1) empty stom achs, (2) idle hands and minds, and (3) no steady employment. The Marshall Plan, he said, has helped the European coun tries more than any other one thing. By this plan, food and machinery were sent to Europe. In this way their empty stom achs were filled, and they were kept busy doing something Worthwhile rather than listen ing to Communist propaganda. The people in those countries do not want as Wgh a standard of living as Americans have. They simply want a little more than they had before and that is what the Marshall Plan has given them. Communism, he stated, is not brilliant and neither are the people who let it ruin their lives. People everywhere should be taught what Communism is, be cause this is the only way that the proper defense can be built against it. Work On Annual Now Underway L. G. Balfour company has been chosen as the publishers for the 1952 edition of the annual. The Delmar Studios of Char* lotte have been selected for the photography work, and a Del mar representative will take in dividual pictures of the students for the annual. Mr. Ivey will continue to take the group pic tures, just as he has in prev ious years. However, individual snapshots will be taken by the snapshot committee. The different editors have chosen their committee members, who will assist them in doing the work in each department. All the staff members are working on the theme; but no definite theme has been chosen yet. They are planning to put in new lights, paint the new ping- pong tables, and paint the walls again. Some ninth graders plan to make murals for the basket ball goals. Mr. Cashwell has expressed the need of students taking good care of the lounge, thus showing their appreciation to the Stu dent Council. ^ NURSES LICENSED Seven students who recently were awarded diplomas from the Albemarle School of Practical Nursing have been licensed by the North Carolina Board of Nurse Examiners, according to E. F._ Wilson, director of the school. They are Betty Burleson, Mrs. Kathleen J. Cook, Mrs. Mildred Griffin, Mrs. Rachel Hatley, Mrs. Louise Lineberry, Patricia Steen, and Charlene Wallace.
