Page 4 THE FULL MOON December, 1955 bulldog barks Athletes of the Month ' DOTTIE WALKER As co-captain of the Albemarle High School girls’ basketball team and also one of the'most outstanding guards on the team, Dotty Walker does a fine job. Although she does not get a chance to run the score up, she certainly shines when it comes to keeping the opposite teams down. She has played on the varsity team for three years, and before that, she was a hard worker on the Tri-Hi Y team. Dotty not only is an experienced athlete, but possesses many other qualities. Dependable, friendly, an active member in a number of clubs, and always ready to lend a helping hand are just a few of Dotty’s qualities. Dotty Walker, this month’s outstanding athlete, is a fine girl, a fine athlete, and a credit to her school. JIMMY COGGINS This issue’s Athlete of the Month goes to the most outstand ing basketball player of A. H. S., center Jimmy Coggins. Jimmy started playing basketball in his sophomore year. He practiced a lot, even had a court in his own yard, and quickly became one of the most outstanding players. He served one year on the junior varsity, and this is his second on the varsity. You never get enough practice, seems to be his motto, for if you were to ride by his home some times, you might see him practicing in his own yard. Even at the school practice, he stays after all the others have gone. He has served four years on the baseball team as pitcher, although he can play any position as well as anyone. He is also the leading basehitter and made the All-Star Legion Base ball team. He is always eager to make friends and is as friendly as anyone you could meet. He is a good sport in all the games he plays, and you’ll never see him mad because of a game. Jimmy is truly the most outstanding basketball player of A. H. S. Big Bag of Tricks Awaits Cage Foes The Bulldog basketball teams have already begun another season of keen competition and the teams look as though they may surprise many of their conference opponents. Co-captains Dotty Walker and Libby Sue McLeod will see plenty of action at their respective positions of forward and guard. Bobby Kimrey and Linda Moose will probably round out the starting forward positions. Bobby was a mainstay last year and will be a dependent this year. Linda Moose played guard last year and was an outstanding defensive player, but this year she may see quite a bit of action at the forward position. In practice she shows she’s capable of holding this position. Martha Huckabee is seeing a lot of first string action in practice and she looks to be an effective forward. Susie Culp and Betty Boone are both very good for wards, and if they don’t start they’ll surely be first rate substitutes. As for the guards, Jeanette Hinson, who saw quite a bit of action last year is looking good in practice this season. Dotty Walker, with her experience and height will be one of the Bull dogs’ dependables this year. Judy Kluttz, a freshman, may have a starting berth. In practice she appears to have what it takes. Sandra Poplin is pushing the other guards for a starting position; although she didn’t play last year, she is showing up well. Hun ter Hearne, Jo Ellen Brooks and Myrna Mills are guards that will see action in many games. Bulldog Team Is Tops In Practice Jimmy Coggins will be the main attraction for the boy cagers, but the tall, dead eye center will have lots of support from the forwards, who are yet to decide who will start because of the competition. Franchot Palmer looks, sharp in practice and will see a lot of action, but David Grigg and Rat Lisk are looking sharp too, so the forwards will provide the team with a lot of points this year. Wade Smith hasn’t started practicing yet, but he is depended up by all to do his usual this season. Guards Buddy Stoker and Edshay Brunson appear to be the first stringers, but competition from Burnie Miller and Ronnie Morris is enough to make them work hard. Buddy didn’t play high school ball last year, but he has had a lot of experience at the “Y”. Edshay was first string last year and shows he wants that same position this year. Burnie Miller looks tops in practice and it’s a fact he’ll see lots of action. All in all, the Bulldog teams look like the teams to follow this season. MORGAN MOTOR COMPANY Dollar for Dollar ...
