December 14, 1956 THE FULL MOON Page 5 Grigg, Jerry and Lane Lowder First-String All-Staters —^— — — $> 14 Seniors Leave Pigskin Parade When the Albemarle High School football team left the field after the Lexington game, four teen seniors had taken the field for the last time. David Grigg, Charlie Smith, Jerry Lowder, Lane Lowder, Punk Gantt, Larry “Rat” Lisk, Mickey Dry, Robert “Q” Smith, and Don Taylor will be missing next year from the first string. Glenn Tal-' bert, Garieth Pendergraph, Clyde Hill, Jack Cranford, and Gerry Currier have also seen their last action on the A.H.S. field. All of these boys played a big role in the team’s success as A.H.S. had another successful sea son, winning nine games, tying one, and losing one. “Hey, girl! Either you’ve got a run in your stocking or a strip ed sun-tan.”—Larry Lisk. “He knows that I know what he knows.”—Miss Caughman. Cood^ pla^rs:^]^^ Lowder, left^^d^ 5 Boys Chosen On All - Conference List Of Players Three boys of Coach Webb’s ’56 gridiron machine made the first string All-State team—Jerry and Lane Lowder and David Grigg. Jerry was named, to a first string tackle slot picked by the Charlotte Observer, and was pick ed to the first string by the Greensboro Daily News, with Punk Gantt making honorable mention on both teams. In the Charlotte News, Lane Lowder made first string All- State, with Jerry making the sec ond team, and Punk getting hon orable mention. Both boys play ed in the Shrine Bowl and both did outstanding jobs. In the'Greetisboro DaAly Nev>s, David Grigg made All-State. Grigg’s steady leadership was a big figure in the Bulldogs’ winning season. The five boys making the All- Conference team were David Grigg, Jerry Lowder, Lane Low der, Larry Lisk, and “Punk” Gantt. David, Jerry, and Lane were awarded this first-team posi tion for their fine play in Albe marle’s undefeated regular sea son. Lisk, the fourth lineman, was picked for his great pass catching all season long. It pulled the team out of hot water more than once. The other man is “Punk” Gantt, a converted fullback, that runs like a souped-up bulldozer. Gantt led his team to victory all season. For this, he too nailed down a first-team position. .
