Yes, on the 19th of No vember, I entered AHS as a sen ior. If you’ve never changed schools, you don’t know how you feel when you sit nervously in the principal’s office, waiting to be admitted. You sit in his office and watch your new classmates come and go, hoping to get that “Excused” slip for being absent the day before, and you listen at therh explain how sick they were or what they had to do when you know some of them had been on a merry hunting trip or on a shopping tour downtown. They look at you in amaze ment, as if you were a freak, and turn and walk away, and you say to yourself, “Well, am I do ing something wrong or is it the way I dress or look?” These thoughts leave your mind as the principal approaches and starts figuring out your schedule. After homeroom period is over, you watch the hustle and bustle Hatley, Brenda Herrin, Brenda Laton, Linda Little, Sue Lowder, Bobbie Mullis, Ramonda Rags dale, Ann Taylor, Ann Whitley, Wayne Lowder, Kenneth Burr, Ronnie Arey, James Hudson, Ron nie Purser, Larry -Kimrey, Calvin Lowder, John Martin, Larry Shel ton, Joe Stokes, Edward Thomp son, Ronald 'Thompson, David Treece, Garry Whitley, Stephen Hill, Stanley Lamberth, Eddie Lefler, Way land McKenzie, Rich ard Morris, Billy Pickier, John Riggins, Joe Snuggs, Gene Starnes, Billy Joe Tucker, Bobby Whitley, Joyce Harris, Frankie Hatley, Eunice Haynesworth, Peggy Jor dan, Judy Mabry, Jane Murrell, Sally Norton, Ana May Renger, Dianne Rogers, Linda Shankle, Arietta Sikes, Thelma Smith, Sue Stone, Myrna Whitley, Claude Burleson, Ronnie Harwood, Larry Hunsucker, Randolph Roche, Benny Troutman, E. This is familiar and reminds you of your long and tiresome days at C. G. H. S. Before I proceed, I would like to make clear that I am perfect ly aware of the “lopsided” 31-0 score between AHS and China Grove, and my policy was; “If you can’t beat ’em, join ’em.” Finally you get straightened out and you are directed to your first period class, which you learn is FULL MOON English and you wonder, “Am^ I supposed to be a genius or something to get in this, or a member of some club?” You inquire later and learn what it is. After I got situated, I started searching vainly for a friend to direct me to my second period class. Having lived in Albemarle before, I have a few close friends. I suddenly spotted Mickey Cagle, and it was just like a thirsty man finding a river. When the bell rang I was directed to Phy sics and- immediately thought, “I will never learn all these rooms, doors, and stairs.” Then the horrible thought came to my mind of going into the wrong room. When I finally came to my senses, I was standing in front of Mr. Hatley in the evil smell ing lab. I explained my situation and got straightened out. All went well in Physics and I sur vived without any injuries. After that period, I went mer rily romping off to third period under the supervision of a guide, of course, and returned to Mrs. Fry’s room for homeroom period, where I got re-acquainted with a few old friends. After a long discussion in homeroom, about everything from girls to cars, I went to Mr. Lippard’s room for Study Hall. I was beginning to wonder when we were supposed to eat. I was directed to the cafeteria by Ronnie Haire, an old friend. I was beginning to get familiar with a few old friends at half- time. I didn’t know the score, but had suffered no injuries. The remainder of fourth peri od was spent on my hobby, car designing and writing stories. I stayed in the same room for Ec onomics and Sociology, which was quite a relief. I was shocked to find out that they were on So ciology now and had been since the first of the year» whereas I had been on Economics the whole year. I knew this presented a cute little problem. I next went to Bible and found that I was ahead of them, and this made me feel more reliev ed. When the bell rang, ending the schoolday, I knew I had com pleted my task. Now I’m getting more used to the routine and like it very much. Christmas is coming up and I have already received some of my gifts (my making new friends) and hope to receive much more of the same warm friendship that was presented to me. For my New Year’s Resolu tion, I resolve to make all the friends I can and' try to keep all of them. Thanks, all of you, for making this task much easier for me.
