May 29, 1957 THE FULL MOON Page 9 AHS Science Fair Was Big Success Large crowds of interested spec tators attended the 17th annual Science Fair, titled Science & Pro gress, held recently in the gym nasium, The fair was constituted by projects constructed and ex hibited by science students. A representative crowd of adults from the city and county attended the - opening session of the fair on Sunday. All eighth grade classes, including Kingville, in the city attended the fair on Thurs day. j Outstanding physics projects and their exhibitors were Slide Projection, Mickey Dry; Radia tion, Convection & Conduction, George McManus; Cloud Chamber, John White Iddings; and Perman ent & Electro-Magnets, David Grigg. Excellent chemistry projects and their exhibitors were Matches, Janis Westerlund; Detergent & Soaps, Martha Ann Setzler; Cos metics, Linda Moose; and Stains, Evelyn Underwood. The biology display was high lighted by Nicotene Experiments, Sherrill Lowder; Blood Demon stration, Ed Floyd; Rocks and Minerals, Lane Brown; Genetics, Brenda Huneycutt; and Unusual Biological Facts, Millie Hatley. YUcon 2-2133 Hatley To Serve As Club President Libby Hatley has been elected as the Bible Club president for next year’s first semester. Other officers chosen were Nancy Swar- ingen, vice president; Martha Ann Smith, secretary; E. J. Whitley, treasurer; Gene Starnes, histor ian; Lindsay Harwood, general representative; and Becky Coble, newspaper editor. These officers were installed at the last Bible Club meeting held on May 20. At this meeting Mrs. Jim I\^y, who will replace Miss Abrahamsen as Bible teacher and Bible Club sponsor, was introduc ed to the club. Senior members of the club were presented gifts at this meet ing as were Miss Michael, Kitty Almond, Brenda Huneycutt, Ivan Sibley, Lindsay Harwood, and Harry Whitley. Hearne, Langley, Winn Are Chosen Majorettes and Letter Girls for the 1957-58 school year were chos en on May 2 by the Majorette and Letter Girls squad. Mary Jo Winn will be the new Majorette. Nancy Langley and Lydia Hearne will be Letter Girls. From/ this year’s Majorette squad a chief will be chosen by Mr. Hauss at a later date. Grad uating chief is Linda Moose. Martha Huckabee will be the Letter Girl from the 1956-57 sea son, since Jeanette Hinson and Elizabeth Tucker are to graduate. wheel Rotisserie, Mike Ross; Atomic Structure, Paul Welch; Transistor Radio, Homer Blalock; and Fire Warning System, Don Martin. . x j Many hours of consistent study and work were exemplified by the exhibits. “This year’s fair was one of the biggest and best ever held”, stated Mr. Hatley. Play Presented By Black Masque “The Barrier,” a one-act play, was presented by the Black Mas que Club to the student body in assembly on May 10. The play was the story of a doctor and his wife whose lives were endangered by a man seek ing revenge on the doctor whom he held responsible for the death of his wife. Cary McSwain played the part of the doctor, while Gail Morris played the part of the doctor’s wife. Ronnie Millican was the un balanced man seeking revenge, and Winfred Ford and Wade Mc Swain acted as members of the police force. Miss Bankett, advisor of the Compliments of ALBEivlARLE RADIO CO.
