'Climb Every Mountain'
Annual Congress Theme
Albemarle Senior High School and Albemarle Junior High School
will host approxim^ately 250 students at the Western District of North
Carolina Student Council Congress which is to take place Friday and
Saturday, April 2 and 3, at Albemarle Senior High School
^ Delegates are to arrive at ASHS between 11 o’clock a.m and 1
0 clock p.m. and will proceed to register in the Student Lounge. The
highlight of the Friday afternoon session will be the keynote address
dehvered by Dr. Amos Abrams of the State Department of Public
Instruction.
A banquet and dance will be held Friday night in which the
theme of the congress, “Climb Every Mountain,” will be carried out
through speeches and decorations. The Jimmy Brown Combo has
been secured to provide the music for the dance which will be held
— in the gymnasium from 8:00 un

their hosts where they will spend
the night.
At 8:30 a.m. the delegates will
reassemble at ASHS for the third
general session, after which they
will attend their second discussion
period. At the fourth general ses
sion which is to be held shortly
thereafter, candidates seeking dis

present their campaign speeches
to the congress. The election of
officers will be conducted by Tom
Webls of ASHS, WDNCSCC vice-
president. After the balloting has
been completed, the newly elected
officers will be installed by their
predecessors. The congress will
then be adjourned until next year.
Leading this year’s congress
(Continued on Page Six)
were those of the beach and the
ocean, places very close to the
hearts and thoughts of most stu
dents and reminiscent of summer
vacation. Entertainment was pro
vided by a live combo employed
by the Teen Club for this occas
ion. Refreshments were sold, and
any profits were returned to the
club treasury for use in other
functions.
As the date of the big dance
approached, enthusiasm and an
ticipation rose as cominittee mem
bers were hard at work assuring
the dance as a big success. It is
the opinion of club members that
this is the key step that will
open the door for “more things
to do in Albemarle” in the future.
