F-3.L.A. The last meeting of the F*B,L*A« for this year was held Monday, May 13. A weiner roast was enjoyed at the home of Mrs.Harper, Afterwards there was a meeting to elect officers for the coming year at the home of Linda Beaman. The following “officers were elected: Pres, - JoAnn Thoirpson V.Pres, - Sharon Moore Secretary - Sheryl Corbett Treasurer - Heine Brock Reporter - Rachel A, Bunch Historians - Marie Thonpscn Thelma J, Byrd Song Leader - Sue Thonpscn On Monday, May 6, sev eral girls from West Mont gomery participated in a scholarship contest at the Albemarle College of Beauty Culture, The girls took 'their own models to the contest and styled their hair before the judges. Those girls from West who wen scholarships are Jucty Harris, Carol Dennis, Iliene Brock^ Billie Carol Thonpscn, and Marie ThoiiEp- scn. A T]?]t; JD3 Meirbers of the West Mantgomery Hi^ School chorus worked very hard on music they perforraed for the school cn Friday, May 17* Some of the selections the chorus sang were: "Some Enchanted Evening” Climb Ev*ry Mountain,” "Tea for Two," and "01* Man River," and others. There were also several selections by trios and other ensembles. Andrews will attend the eight-week summer session of the Governor’s School for Gifted Students. The unique school will be held cn the canpus of Salem College. The school is free to the students. They will spend the summer concen- tratixiQ in one academic area in which each is par ticularly gifted. Bobby will concentrate cn math while Karen will enphasize stu(fy in foreign language. An organized recreation program is included. Seventeen year old Diane Callicutt, senior at West, has been awarded top place in a contest search ing for new talent. The contest, held in Raleigh, included twenty partici pants many of whom had sung professionally, Diane sang "As Long As He Needs Me" from ,the Broadway hit Oliver and was enliiusiast- Ically applauded by the judges. As first place winner, she will appear on radio and television and be signed to a record ing contract* Diane is student dir^^ctor and vice- president of the West Montgomery High School chorus. The much anticipated annuals arrived around the last of April, The year book,entitled The Warrior, was very strikingly done. The cover used the tri colors—red, black, and white—of West Montgomery High School. The many in dividual and group photo graphs throu^out were done with a very profes sional flair by Delmar of Charlotte. The 1963 year book was dedicated to Mr. T. L. White, West Mont gomery principal. The total sales was a little over four hundred annuals, Ccaigratulations goes to the annual staff for a job well-done.
