On the contrary, she 3a proud o£ It—proud oC the frienda the years have bronglit, proud of the record she made, and proud most of all tills year, tliiit along with the daughters who gather around her table, slio can claim a few of her children'a children. This is one of the joys that comes with growing old. She does not want to apoll any of her family, but since she now boasts grand children, who could blame hov if she slipped them an occasional sugnr plum or an extra ticltet to the circus? This is not the first year thttt the second generation has been repreaentod 1n the student body. It was In 1924 that the first granddaughter's club was organized, and the list published in the Oak Leaver gives six names as follows: Joy Beaman, daughter of Mattie Brooks Beainuu, a stwdent here iu 1S99.1900. Janet Sikes, daughter of Ruth Win gate Sikes, at Meredith In 1899-1900, Cuthorine Baines, daughter of Annie Cone Baines, at Meredith 1899-1900. Alice Groves Hunsucker, daughter of Rosa Cox Hniisiiclcer, at Meredith 1899-1900. Emily Cheek, daughter of Clara Paschal Cheek, at Meredith 1902-1903. Mary Allison, daughter of Mary Walters Aliison. All of these “Kranddaughters” have graduated uow: To fhe present freshman clasa is due the honor of having the llrsi duughlers of gnuUifttes of Meredith. There arc two this year,—Noll Baker, daughter of Hallie Williams Baker of the class of 1903: and Anne Simms, daughter of Virginia Edgerton Simms of the class of 1904.
