May 13, 1933 THE TWIG coliece-UBRAnr PI. C TIwm .•.SOCIETY*. Dr. and Mrs. Brewer Honor Seniors Members of the senior class of Meredith. College were dinner gtiests of Dr. and Mrs. C. E. Brewer on Thursday evening, May 6, in the college dining room. The guests of the evening were received in the parlors by Dr. and Mrs. Brewer and Miss Ellen Brewer. Dinner was served at individ ual tables centered M'ith minia ture inAy poles and china doll dancers. Rainbow colors of the old class were used in the table decorations. Breakfast for Juniors At Old Chimney On Monday, May 1, at 7:30 a.m., the freshman class enter tained their big sisters, the junior class, at a breakfast. Each .lit tle sister conducted lier big sister to the old chimney west of String- field Hall and acted as hostess to tiiat person pai-licularly. Annie Mae Taylor, president of the fi-cshmdn class, welcomed the juniors. Frances Calloway made speech of appreciation to*the juniors for their friendly inter est and kindness. The menu consisted of apples, bananas, pigs-in-blanket (roast ed by the own fair liands of every freshman for her big sister), rolls, doughnuts, and coffee. Josephine Arnettc went to Roxboro Tuesday night, May 9, to assist in a piano recital at the invitation of Mrs. Mable James Wood, ’27. Wake Forest-Meredith Have Joint S. G. Banquet The old and new Student Gov ernment councils of Meredith and Wake Forest bad a joint banquet at Carolina Pints on Monday evening, May 8. Addi tion HeM'lett, pi'esident of the Wake Foi'est student govern ment, was toastmaster of the oc casion. Toasts and responses were made by Addison Hewlett, Virginia Garnett, Mary C. Shearin, Howard Phillips, Flem ing Fuller, Miss Biggers. The speaker of the evening, Haywood Weeks of Cai-olina, wa.s introduced by a toa«t from Amorette Byrd. Mr. Weeks spoke on Student Government. Mars Hill Club Picnic The Mars Hill Club of Mere dith College entertained the Corresponding Club of Wake Forest College, Saturday after noon, May 6, at a wiener roast in the grove. An enjoyable after noon was brought to a close by the singing of Mars Hill songs. Other invited guests were Misses Kelly, English, and Biggers. Dr. Harris Entertdins Class at Carolina Pines Gorham Silver Company Gives Exhibit Here The Gorham Company pre sented a display of fine art in storhng at a tea given in honor of the senior classes of Poacc, St. Mary’s and Meredith in the College parlors on Friday after noon from four to six o’clock. The exhibition included lovely pieces of flat silver, Arrentinc ware, the original having been made in 100 B.C., tlie Unfinished Masterpiece, a $5,000 silver serv ice, and formal and informal din ner tables which M’ere beautifully appointed. Jlr. Edward Talbot, Jr., M'as in cliarge of tlie display which [las been put on at many large women’s colleges throughout the south. The Home Economics Department of Meredith co operated wit!^ tlie company in scrvinff the refreshments. Dr. Julia Harris, head of the English department,- entertained her class in literary criticism at a breakfast, given at Carolina Pines, Sunday morning, May 7. Those present were: Rachel ®igg*5 Charlotte Hooper, Pat Abernethy, France* Maynard, Mrs. Ruth Couch Allen, and Lula Belle Highsmith. Emily Miller and Peg Le Grand spent the week-end in Shelby. Lithogi’aphs are late com ers among prhits, and only re cently have they really been ap preciated. Miss D w 1 g h t’s c ]i a r- ncter sketches' arc particularly interesting bccause of the humor and truth which they i*eflect. Her entire work possesses a depth of tone wliich renders it unusual as well as delightful. The artist has studied abroad and has presented exhibitions in Paris and other leading cities of Europe.
