Kappa Nu Sigma inducts Sixteen new members were inducled into Kappa Nu Sigma Tuesday evening Octotier 4, 1983. The signing of the Kappa Nu Sigma pledge by the new nr«mber8 took place in the Alumnae House at Meredith, following a coffee which was given by present members for the new members and former members of Kappa Nu Sigma. Kappa Nu Sigma Is a scholastic honor society on Meredith’s campus. To be eligible for membership, a stu dent must have completed 75 to Elizabeth B. Hopkins will speak at the next Meredith convocation at 10 a.m., on Monday, November 14 in Jones Auditorium. Hopkins was appointed Manager, Corporate Support Programs and Consumer Af- alrs, for Philip Mon’Is Incor porated in March 1983. Ms. Hopkins was fomierly Admini strator for PHIL-PAC, the cor poration’s political action com mittee. in this position, Ms. Hopkins’ responsibilities in clude serving as Secretary of the Corporate Contributions Committee, and directing the Contribution Department’s matching gifts, scholarship, and volunteer programs. Ms. Hopkins joined Philip Mon'Is Incorporated In 1981 as Senior Coordinator, PHIL-PAC, and was appointed Administra tor a year later. Prior to joining the com pany, Ms. Hopkins was Executive Director of the Every- woman Opportunity Center in Buffalo, N.Y., aid before that, President of WondenA/omen Employment, Inc., also in Buffalo. She was previously an English teacher at the Park School of Buffalo. A native of Minneapolis, Ms. Hopkins received a B.A. degree in English from Weils College in 1954 and an M.S. de gree from State University of New York at Buffalo In 1964. Ms. Hopkins Is a member of New York Women in Com munications, the Academy of Political Science, and Women and Foundations-Corporate Philanthropy. She is also chair man of the New York State De partment of Latjor's Displaced Homemaker Program Advisory Committee. A physical education minor with a concentration In fitness Is being offered by Meredith College starting in the fall semester, 1983. •••— l^>e Wtnees-Mwer- vlsioned as a program designed to train students to be fitness professionals, reports the P.E. department. The program will prepare students to work as corporate and industrial fitness directors, YWCA-YMCA exercise direc tors, health and fitness managers, and city recreational exercise directors. The minor was developed t)ecause of a iiational emphasis on fitness, says Dr. Cindy Bross, Meredith P.E. Instructor. The minor requires the fol lowing courses: Physical Fitness (PED121) 3 hrs. 2 hrs. First Aid (PED 200) "CSnfSftipdi^rT" HS&lfh' fgsues (PED i 00) 2 hrs, Practicum 3hrs. P.E. Activities (Aerobics, Aquatics, Condition ing. Racket Sports) 3 hrs. Nutrition (227) 3 hrs. Prerequisites are Biology 100 and General Psychology 100. This semester four stu dents are woriing toward the minor. As part of the minor the P.E. department has set up an agreement with North Ridge MEREDITH COLLEGE OFFICIAL EXAMINATION SCHEDULE - FALL SEMESTER 1983 by Linda Cheek Health Spa for a nine-week in ternship. Dr. Bross notes that the internship would involve training laaerobics. and weight machine use. The student would also develop her own ex ercise program. Anyone who is interested in tile Fitness Minor should contact the Meredith P.E. de- partroent. For those Interested but unable to get the Fitness Minor, a course on physical fitness program theory will offered this spring,.It will include infor mation on nutrition, weight machines, and diet. Outside speakers wlli also be presented. It will meet at 9 am., Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Dr. Bross will be the instructor. I. READING DAY Is a day of preparation for examinations.
