Call for America's Libraries Campaign has begun by Janet Freeman, College Librarian Between March 16 (Freedom of Information Day) and April 11 (the close of National Library Week) the American Library Association is giving us an opportunity to stand up and be counted for libraries. And we have an opportunity to invite everyone we know to join us. WHAT? On March 16 the Call for America’s Libraries Campaign began. The 8(X) number enables members of the public to “vote yes” for libraries, librarians and America’s Right to Know by simply picking up the telephone. HOW? Callers will be asked three brief questions about their support of libraries and librarians and will be asked permission to use their names and addresses in statements of support directed at key legislators. WHY? Numbers count. It’s time to show the policy-makers who spend our tax dollars that Americans value library services and want to see them fully supported. The 800 number will give everyone who loves and appreciates libraries and librarians a chance to stand up and be counted. WHAT CAN Y OU DO? Encourage everyone you know to call. Ask others to help you spread the word... and the number. This campaign will benefit all libraries, and members of the Meredith community can make a difference.
