3 CAMPUS FEA TURES Model United Nations team competes in Atlanta JONI SMITH Editor-in-Chief Meredith’s Model United Nations team traveled to Atlanta Nov. 21-24 to com pete with other schools from the South at the Thirteenth Annual Southern Regional Model United Nations Conference. Forty-one schools partici pated including Berry College, Pace University, UNC- Asheville, UNC- Chapel Hill, UNC- Greensboro, the University of Alabama, and the University of Tennessee. Overall, this year’s confer-- ence was the largest in SRMUN history, with over 540 delegates attending. Model United Nations is an organization created by the United Nations to pro mote knowledge and sup port of the UN. Schools with Model UN teams or classes can attend regional and national conventions throughout the year. Each school is assigned a coun try to represent in each committee of the UN. Schools who stay in the character of their country, present their ideas most effectively, and contribute meaningfully to the resolu tions adopted by each com mittee of the Model UN are recognized at the end of the convention with an Honorable Mention, Outstanding Delegation Award, or a Distinguished Delegation Award. Meredith's Model UN team represented Colombia and the Czech Republic at the conference. Michelle Kehoe, a first time delegate to MUN, and Sakeena Abdulraheem, returning for her second MUN conference, repre sented the General Assembly First Committee. Meredith students selected for Who’s Who The 2003 edition of Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges will include the names of 31 seniors from Meredith College who have been selected as national outstanding campus leaders. They join an elite group of students from 2,300 institutions of higher learning. Students were selected based on their scholastic achievement, service to the college, participation and leadership in academic and extracurricular activities, and potential for future achievement. Each department submitted the names of twelve students in nomination for the award and a special committee appointed by the Student Life Committee consisting of faculty, students, and staff met to make the final selection.
